The SEC's new rule that limits only 25 signees per class is something Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt blames for not being able to sign Auburn cornerback Jermaine Whitehead. Nutt said during a speech at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham....
quote:

"Gene Chizik came in and stole my man Jermaine Whitehead," "I asked Gene, 'Now Gene, you didn't even have a home visit.' It must be nice to hold up that crystal ball. Hold up a crystal ball and get one of my best players."

"He took my hand and said, 'Coach Nutt, I'm coming to play for you,'" Nutt said. "I took his word!"
There's actually more of Nutt and Whitehead's conversation here. Plus, Nutt's take on whether he's on the hot seat. It's an interesting read.

Last week at an annual gathering of SEC athletic officials it was reported Auburn coach Gene Chizik asked about the investigation of his school more than a few times and was given a pretty stern response. Well, Chizik is saying that wasn't the case...

Chizik said Thursday that the exchange was "not confrontational at all."

"I was simply asking Julie, who is the top enforcement official, to clarify some process," he said. "I was just very appreciative that she was willing to give me some clear answers.

"I was just looking for clarification of the process, which she was happy to do," Chizik added.

Auburn has not received an official letter of inquiry.

Last month at an annual gathering of SEC athletic officials (coaches & ADs) in Florida, Julie Roe Lach, the NCAA's vice president for enforcement, was doing a presentation and when she opened the floor to questions, Auburn Coach Gene Chizik asked about the investigation of his school being so open-ended, not once, not twice, but three times leading to this stern response by Lach according to coaches...

"You'll know when we're finished,"... "And we're not finished."
Nothing wrong with the question in my opinion, just maybe not the forum for that.

Auburn coach Gene Chizik has agreed to a new contract that will pay him $3.5 million annually and run through 2015. With incentives, he could earn up to $4.5 million. Athletic director Jay Jacobs said in a statement...
quote:

"We believe that we have the best coach in college football,"..."More importantly, coach Chizik is a great mentor to our student-athletes, he represents Auburn with class and integrity in all that he does, and he is an outstanding ambassador for Auburn University."
Chizik now ranks fourth among SEC coaches in annual salary. Alabama's Nick Saban tops the list with an average of $4.7 million after signing a new deal in 2009. Saban is followed by LSU's Les Miles at $3.75 million and Arkansas' Bobby Petrino at $3.56 million. Talk about this more here.
