The Ohio State Mascot "Brutus" took a ceremonial snap during a school practice. It all seemed to be going well for the mascot, until he left the pocket...

Urban Meyer spoke at the Ohio coaches convention. In part of his speech, which lasted more than an hour, he recounted this story about famed Ohio State coach Woody Hayes. Then head coach Earl Bruce brought Hayes in to speak to the coaching staff about toughness. He brought a live prop.

“(One assistant) raises his hand and says, ‘Coach, I’d do this. Just promise not to poke me in the eye.’”

Vanderbilt ditched both Northwestern and Ohio State games, opting for a 2013 nonconference slate of Austin Peay, Massachusetts, UAB and Wake Forest. Vanderbilt spokesman Rod Williamson did not return a phone call seeking comment. They did the deed by a letter sent via U.S. mail.
