7-year-old Jack Hoffman is a cancer patient fighting for his life. He was diagnosed at a young age with a brain tumor and is a huge Nebraska Cornhusker fan. The Cornhusker family has not left his side. They not only invited Jack to their Spring Game, but they put him into play. On a 4th and 1 situation, Jack received a handoff and sprinting down the far sideline with a caravan of blockers...
Here's what Charles Barkley had to say about the Big Ten...
Michigan State’s Tom Izzo quickly responded to Charles Barkley’s assessment on Sunday that both the Mountain West and Pac-12 were better conferences leading into the NCAA tournament.
quote: “I had a message to Steve Smith to ask Charles where Auburn is in this tournament,”
Izzo told reporters on Monday. Auburn, Barkley’s alma mater, went an unsightly 9–23 this season and finished at the bottom of the SEC.
Urban Meyer spoke at the Ohio coaches convention. In part of his speech, which lasted more than an hour, he recounted this story about famed Ohio State coach Woody Hayes. Then head coach Earl Bruce brought Hayes in to speak to the coaching staff about toughness. He brought a live prop.
quote: “He reaches down and grabs this box, slides the top and there was something in the box moving around. He reaches in and he pulls out this turtle. He reaches down, this turtle’s snapping and he says, ‘I’m going to show you toughness.’ He unzips his pants and takes out whatever he takes out. The turtle reaches up and snaps at him. You see the veins and the sweat (on Hayes). He screams at the coaches, ‘That’s toughness! That’s f’n toughness!’ He reaches down, pokes the turtle right in the eye and it falls off. He wipes the sweat off his forehead and says, ‘That’s the problem. We don’t have anybody in this room tough enough to do that right there.
“(One assistant) raises his hand and says, ‘Coach, I’d do this. Just promise not to poke me in the eye.’”
After Orlando-area wide receiver Dominic Walker elected to decommit from Nebraska this past weekend, well, coach Bo Pelini and one of his assistant coaches allegedly had choice words for the 6’2, 190 lb. Walker. Walker decided it’d be appropriate to deliver the news of his decommitment personally by making a phone call to Nebraska’s staff. This did not sit well with Pelini. Here’s how Walker described the call to the Orlando Sentinel’s Chris Hays...
quote: "It was a very tough decision. They were [mad]. They were very mad. But I thought I had to call them like a real man should," Walker said. "But yeah, they were mad. Coach Pelini said, 'Best of luck, you're going to need it.'”
Walker then added that Nebraska wide receivers coach Rich Fisher was on the call too.
Following Nebraska’s 45–31 loss to Georgia in the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day, Cornhusker QB Taylor Martinez stuck with his pregame assessment that the Bulldogs were “just another typical Big Ten defense” and then some. Martinez said in a story for the Lincoln Journal Star...
quote: “I think the Big Ten, talent-wise, is a lot better, and the defenses in the Big Ten are better than SEC defenses,” “This was supposed to be one of the top defenses in the SEC, and we pretty much did anything we wanted against them.”
