According to USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer, each coach’s vote is normally kept confidential until the final vote of the regular season. But when a voter such as Kiffin “volunteers false or misleading information about his vote in public,” USA Today will publicly set the record straight. Kiffin tried clarifying with USA Today in a Thursday night phone interview, saying that he meant that he wouldn’t vote USC No. 1 if he were the media or coaching another team.
