Mal Moore, who has been intertwined with Alabama athletics for more than 50 years, is stepping down as athletics director after experiencing health problems. Moore, 73, was hospitalized at Duke University Medical Center last week with pulmonary problems. His resignation is effective immediately, according to the university, and he will take on the role of special assistant to university president Judy Bonner.

"As many of you may know, due to factors related to my health, I am at a point that I can no longer fulfill my duties as athletics director in the true championship manner the position requires," Moore said. "While I have to focus on my health issue, I look forward to maintaining an ongoing working relationship with this great university as special assistant to Dr. Bonner. I know I can count on each of you to continue your unequaled support for me and the University of Alabama."

Alabama running back Eddie Lacy will not participate in workouts at this week's NFL scouting combine due to a hamstring injury, according to a league source.

While running the 40-yard dash in a mock combine event last week at IMG, Lacy strained his hamstring, which resulted in swelling, soreness and discomfort.

Doctors examined Lacy and conducted an MRI that revealed he suffered a small tear in some tissue around the hamstring.

The doctors, trainers and performance trainers have indicated Lacy would not be able to resume training or be completely healthy to give a representative workout in time for the combine.

Lacy will rehab aggressively and resume training in order to hopefully perform all drills at Alabama's Pro Day on March 13.

On "Inside The NBA" on TNT last night, Charles Barkley showed up with a bandage around his head. Why? Ernie Johnson asked him and here's what Sir Charles had to say...
quote:

Barkley: “Ernie, you’re not gonna believe this. Being the Auburn guy that I am, I wanted to be first class. I went down to the University of Alabama to congratulate the Crimson Tide on winning the BCS Championship - and I got mugged. I got mugged in Tuscaloosa, Ernie, and my credit cards are missing.”

Kenny Smith: “You’re just an Alabama hater, man. Why don’t you leave those kids alone?”

Barkley: “Oh, it’s my fault they’re mugging people.”
