The New York Times is saying Louisville may get picked over West Virginia to join the Big 12. The Times cited a source who said...
quote:

"it’s “50-50 right now between West Virginia and Louisville” and “too close to call.”
Apparently some “legal entanglements” were the only thing stopping the West Virginia transaction from taking place right now.

Amidst all this recent conference jumping, the commissioners of the Big East, Conference USA and Mountain West Conference are meeting to talk about joining forces to create a nationwide football superconference of 28 to 32 teams with the goal of gaining an automatic Bowl Championship Series qualifying bid. UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood said...

"We would figure out some way -- four divisions of seven teams each, a playoff and then a conference championship game -- to come up with the (automatic qualifier)," "Craig and Britton are going into this meeting in New York with one thing in mind, to make this happen with the Big East,"

According to Air Force athletic director Hans Mueh the school turned down the Big 12 for the Big East. Mueh told the Denver Post...
quote:

“Our interest is high in the Big East. That’s fair to say,”

“We were approached by the Big 12, and I told them we’re not a good fit for that conference,” Mueh told the paper. “In the Big 12, geography makes sense, the economics make sense, but recruiting makes no sense for us. I can’t recruit against Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State.”

“That’s why I turned down the Big 12. I can’t do that to my kids, because they’ll get beat up. I’d love the extra $12 million or whatever it would be per year from the TV money. And I know how I’d spend the money. I’d build a new soccer stadium, and I’d build a new baseball facility, all in one year. But I can’t do that.”
At least he's honest...?

TCU has a new option. The Big 12 has invited TCU to join their conference and they're going to accept. TCU chancellor Victor Boschini Jr. issued a statement...
quote:

"These discussions with the Big 12 have huge implications for TCU,"..."It will allow us to return to old rivalries, something our fans and others have been advocating for many years. As always, we must consider what's best for TCU and our student-athletes in this ever-changing landscape of collegiate athletics. We look forward to continuing these discussions with the Big 12."
Supposedly, it's a done deal. TCU would have to pay the $5 million exit fee from the Big East but could join the Big 12 in time for the 2012-13 athletic year. This move would leave the BIg East with six football programs. Yikes.
