USC wide receivers coach Tee Martin said Tuesday that he'll remain at the school instead of returning to Tennessee to join new Vols coach Butch Jones' staff. Martin, the former quarterback who led Tennessee to the 1998 national title, is in his first season on Trojans coach Lane Kiffin's staff. "I was very honored to be offered a position on Coach Jones' Tennessee staff," Martin said in a statement posted on school's website.

"I truly believe he will do an outstanding job with the Vols program. My decision to remain at USC was the toughest I have ever had to make because Tennessee is such a special place to me.

"At the end of the day, I am a man of my word. I promised Coach Kiffin when I was hired at USC that I had goals I wanted to accomplish here. We still have work to do here to reach those goals. I see a great future at USC with the players on our roster and the recruits we have coming in.

"I have so much love and respect for Tennessee. But at this time, the right decision was to continue at USC and I am looking forward to doing that

Monte Kiffin will resign from his post as USC's de facto defensive coordinator after the Trojans' December bowl game to pursue opportunities in the NFL, he announced Thursday. Monte Kiffin said in the statement, released Thursday night on the school's official site...

"I really enjoyed my time at USC and the opportunity I had to work with our players and coaches," "The chance to work for my son, Lane, was unique and memorable, but we always treated each other professionally on a coach-to-coach basis."
Lane Kiffin said in a statement...

"I respect my father's decision and his desire to return to the NFL," "We are very appreciative of the hard work and effort that he put in at USC these past three years. He has a tremendous passion for coaching young men and he is a phenomenal recruiter.

Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times wrote that the future of Lane Kiffin as the head coach at USC is in “real doubt”...
quote:

"On the field, this team with unbeaten talent is 6-3 while gaining national recognition mostly for reckless penalties and questionable play-calling.

Off the field, Kiffin has dragged the team through an array of distractions and ethics dilemmas that have tarnished the athletic department’s sterling post-probation image cultivated by Athletic Director Pat Haden.

Kiffin was not hired by Haden, and there is now real doubt about his ability to keep his job beyond this season as the department sinks deeper into embarrassment. Kiffin was a Mike Garrett guy, and there are indications that Haden is ready to rid the program of the last traces of that legacy. As always, winning solves everything, and it appears Kiffin is going to have to do plenty of it in these final three regular-season games.
Like, maybe, win all of them?"
