Five LSU football players sign NFL free-agent contracts Five LSU Tigers have signed free agent contracts with NFL franchises, LSU officials announced Monday.

The list of free agent deals for former Tigers include: linebacker Darry Beckwith to the San Diego Chargers, defensive tackle Marlon Favorite to the Carolina Panthers, defensive end Kirston Pittman to the St. Louis Rams, center Brett Helms to the Houston Texans, and defensive end Tremaine Johnson to the Minnesota Vikings.

Six players were selected in the draft over the weekend, including defensive end Tyson Jackson, who went No. 3 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs. Click here for complete story.

In LSU Baseball news, the Tigers went 5-0 last week and were rewarded by moving up in the latest baseball polls released yesterday. LSU moved up one spot in the Baseball America poll from No. 6 to No. 5. The Tigers jumped five spots in Collegiate Baseball's poll from No. 9 to No. 4. Click here for complete story.

In other baseball news, pitchers Anthony Ranaudo and Matty Ott were recognized Monday for their contributions to the Tigers’ sweep of Auburn last weekend.

Ranaudo was named one of six National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball magazine, and Ott was named SEC Pitcher of the Week by the league office.

LSU (33-12) returns to action tonight against Tulane (26-18) in Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is at 6:30pm CT.

Five Tigers Selected on Day 2 of NFL Draft After Tyson Jackson went to Kansas City with the third pick of the first round on Saturday, five more Tigers were drafted on day 2 of the NFL draft on Sunday. The following is the list of players drafted over the weekend, with team, round and overall pick:

1. Tyson Jackson, Kansas City, Round 1, 3rd Pick Overall
2. Quinn Johnson, Green Bay, Round 5, 145th Pick Overall
3. Herman Johnson, Arizona, Round 5, 167th Pick Overall
4. Curtis Taylor, San Francisco, Round 7, 219th Pick Overall
5. Demetrius Byrd, San Diego, Round 7, 224th Pick Overall
6. Ricky Jean-Francois, San Francisco, Round 7, 244th Overall Pick

LB Derry Beckwith was a free agent pick up by the San Diego Chargers.

The SEC had the most selections in the draft, with 37 players chosen. LSU and Georgia led the conference with 6 selections each. After the SEC, the ACC had 33 players chosen, the Pac-10 had 32, Big 12 and the Big Ten had 28 each and the Big East had 27.

Tigers Complete Sweep of Auburn, 7-6 Per LSUsports.net: LSU third baseman Tyler Hanover delivered a three-run homer, and right fielder Jared Mitchell collected three hits to lead the sixth-ranked Tigers to a 7-6 victory and SEC series sweep of Auburn Sunday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium.

LSU (33-12, 14-7 SEC) moved into a first-place tie with Georgia in the SEC overall standings following the Bulldogs’ loss to Ole Miss Sunday. Auburn fell to 25-19 overall and 8-13 in the conference despite a five-hit performance from shortstop Casey McElroy. Click here for the complete story.

LeMahieu Lifts Tigers Past Auburn, 7-6 Per LSUsports.net: LSU second baseman DJ LeMahieu drove in the game-winning run on a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the sixth-ranked Tigers a dramatic 7-6 victory over Auburn Saturday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium.

With the win and Arkansas’ loss to Tennessee, the Tigers (32-12, 13-7 SEC) moved into first place in the SEC Western Division standings. Click here for complete story.
