Baseball prepares for Central Florida; Lady Tigers beat Vols; Men travel to Kentucky | by Chicken on Feb 27, 2009 at 8:10 am | | | In Men's Basketball news, the Men's team (24-4, 12-1) hits the court again on Saturday when they travel to Lexington to face Kentucky (19-9, 8-5). Tip-off in Rupp Arena is at 3pm CT. The game will be nationally televised by CBS. This will be a matchup of the two top scorers in the SEC. The Wildcats are led by Jodie Meeks, who leads the SEC in scoring with 25.4 ppg. LSU's Marcus Thornton is the second leading scorer in the SEC with 20.9 ppg. LSU has earned at least a share of the SEC title, and can win the SEC title outright with a victory over Kentucky, or a loss by South Carolina (20-6, 9-4) to Vanderbilt this weekend. Per Sports2 on the Tiger Rant, Garrett Temple is expected to play against Kentucky. He bumped his head with another player at practice and has a bruise under the left eye but no broken jaw. He is expected to practice today and travel to Lexington. In LSU Baseball news, the No. 1 Tigers (4-0) return to action tonight to open a three-game home stand against Central Florida. Opening pitch is at 7pm CT. In LSU Football news, the LSU Athletic Department announced a home-and-home series with West Virginia starting in 2010. The Mountaineers will travel to Baton Rouge in 2010, with LSU traveling to Morgantown, WV in 2011. There is talk on the Tiger Rant of LSU trying to schedule a game at a neutral site in either Texas or Georgia. My hope is that if LSU takes this route, that they choose to play in Houston. Between the SEC Championship and the Peach Bowl, LSU has played seven games this decade in Atlanta. A game in Houston's Reliant Stadium against Texas A&M or Texas Tech would be great. LSU has a huge alumni presence in Houston, and LSU would easily sell its allotment of tickets. In Women's Basketball, the Lady Tigers (16-9, 9-4 SEC) beat No. 18 Tennessee 63-61 at the PMAC to pick up their second win over a ranked team. The Lady Tigers have won four straight games.
