Tigers Hold Off Razorbacks, 79-69 Per LSUsports.net:

BATON ROUGE -- As LSU celebrates its 100th Anniversary of Men's Basketball on Saturday, the Tigers gave a sold-out Pete Maravich Assembly Center packed with alumni a great show. The Tigers built a 23-point halftime lead and held off a second-half Arkansas run to win, 79-69.

LSU (17-4, 5-1 SEC), winners of five-straight SEC games, saw its huge lead cut to five with less than four minutes to play. However, consecutive baskets by Tasmin Mitchell including a three-pointer from the top of the key sealed the win on the historic afternoon.

LSU Basketball Announces 16-Man All-Century Team Per LSUsports.net:

BATON ROUGE -- The three LSU basketball players whose jerseys adorn the western rafters of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center highlighted the 16-player LSU All-Century team announced Saturday at halftime of the LSU-Arkansas men’s basketball game. The sixteen players were:

LSU to host Arkansas; 100 years of LSU Basketball celebration planned The LSU Men's team returns to action on Saturday afternoon to face the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Maravich Assembly Center. The game, which tips-off at 4pm CT, will be televised by FSN. The Athletic Department announced today that the game is officially sold out.

LSU enters the game 16-4 overall (4-1 in the SEC). The Tigers have won their last four SEC games, including a 79-73 victory at Tennessee on Wednesday. Arkansas is 12-5 overall (1-4 in the SEC). The Hogs snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday by beating Alabama, 89-80.

The game has been designated as the celebration of 100 years of LSU Basketball and over 125 former players are expected to be in attendance at the contest. LSU's All-Century Team will be announced at halftime.

In LSU Football news, two former LSU football players have enrolled at Texas Southern University. Wide receiver Ricky Dixon and offensive lineman Ernest McCoy enrolled at TSU this week. Both players will be eligible to participate with their new team immediately.

On the LSU Recruiting front, WR DeAngelo Benton is expected on campus this weekend for a recruiting visit. Benton signed with LSU back in 2007 and then again in 2008 but was not able to get academically eligible either time. He is considering LSU, Auburn and Ole Miss. He plans to announced his intentions on National Signing Day, which is February 4th.

In Women's Basketball news, Freshman forward LaSondra Barrett scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the LSU women's basketball team won its second straight Southeastern Conference road game, 63-56, over South Carolina on Thursday night at Colonial Life Arena. The Lady Tigers are now 11-7 overall (4-2 in the SEC).

LSU beats Tennessee, 79-73 Marcus Thornton scored 29 points to lead LSU to a big road win over Tennessee, 79-73. LSU improved to 16-4 overall (4-1 in the SEC).

The Tigers went into halftime with a 43-38 lead, and led by as many as 14 points in the second half. Tennessee mounted a furious comeback and was able to take a two-point lead with 4:44 left in the game. LSU pulled away in the final minutes to seal the win.

The Tigers shot well from the free throw line, going 16-20, including two clutch free throws from Chris Johnson in the final minute.

In LSU Football news, LSU is still waiting for an NCAA ruling on defensive tackle Charles Alexander's petition for a sixth year of eligibility. Alexander, who has been plagued with injuries the last two seasons, is expected to be a starter if he is granted an additional year of eligibility.

In LSU Recruiting news, everything is very quiet with six days to go until National Signing Day. Looks like we will have to wait until February 4th to get the final decision on several highly coveted recruits. LSU faces Tennessee in Knoxville tonight The LSU men (15-4, 3-1) return to action tonight in Knoxville to face Tennessee (12-6, 3-1). Tip-off in Thompson-Boling Arena is at 7pm CT. The game will be regionally televised by Raycom Sports (WAFB-TV Channel 9 in Baton Rouge).

In LSU Baseball news, the baseball team is preparing to move into the new Alex Box Stadium next week. Head coach Paul Mainieri hopes the Tigers will be able to practice in the new facility for the first time on Tuesday, February 3.

According to this article in the T-P, Chad Jones will be with the team when practice begins officially Sunday. Sunday's practice will take place in the old Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers, who are ranked No. 1 or 2 in various preseason polls, start the season in the new stadium on February 20 against Villanova at 7pm.
