Klutch going back to their ways of hurting Cleveland’s leverage with threatening garlands demand for a trade. Makes me want to stay away from him honestly.
Posted on 5/17/24 at 1:52 pm to Macintosh504
Garland was going to be traded anyway IMHO, as Cleveland will choose Mitchell if he wants to stay.
This is RP claiming “This is what Garland really wants” rather than him getting unceremoniously sent to Washington.

Mobley is getting extended. He isn’t on the table.
You don’t trade away a young talented player with value just to make money work, along with giving them a 1st or two for that privilege. If they don’t send other assets back you simply don’t do the deal.

You still need to make the money work.
Ingram and Nance works for Garland and Mobley, just saying. Though to get Mobley you either add a first or Herb instead of Nance

I think that one is a no brainer. Send out the first.

You don’t have a say in that, Cleveland would have the say in it, it would come down to if they would prefer to have Herb, or the draft pick. You cannot tell the other team what they have to take.

I get it, I’d love Mobley on this team too. However, I’m not sure how many times this has to be said, but the Cavs are not trading Mobley. They said in February they weren’t, Zach Lowe said in April there was no way they were trading Mobley, and Jon Hollinger said just a few days ago Mobley is absolutely going to be on the Cavs next year.
I hate it too, but it’s time to move on from any trade suggestion that has us getting Mobley.

Depends on who has the leverage in the negotiations and is willing to walk. And there are always risks.
The Lake Show lowballed Indiana for Paul George and missed out on him. OTOH, OKC later got him for what was seen as an underwhelming package built around Sabodis and Oladipo before Sabodis made it in Sacramento.

Correct, but it’s also time to move on from trade suggestions that have us grossly overpaying for overpaid non all nba players also

Never once did I say he’s a throw in. Nance is a throw in. Herb is a very good player with value that you use to grab a star player. You have to give up good players to get great players.

Watching these 4 Western Conference teams currently playing, one thing is for certain...
If we get Garland or Murray, we're still miles away from being on the level of these teams.
We'd need to then use CJ, all the picks and 1 of or some combo of Herb/Dyson/Hawkins to get yet another guy to be a true contender.
It's part of the reason why I don't think Garland is actually a good fit. Way too pricy to add a $40mil dude who at best would need to be our #3 option on the best version of what this team can be. He's not a #2.

Nah. Don't be a prisoner of the moment. Get Zion to the fricking playoffs healthy and it's on

We should use the Mavs as an example. They bought low on a malcontent star who was a headache- who’s basically turned around his career in Dallas. Hmm who’s that sound like- oh wait theres this malcontent star in Atlanta who is a headache that can be bought low on named Trae Young.
At the end you trade for the star and the most gettable star for this pels team is likely Trae Young.

The only realistic way for the Pels to challenge for a chip is if Zion turns out to be our Ant Edwards, our Luka, our Jokic or SVA or Giannis. We got our turn at the plate. We got the number one overall pick in the draft in a year where a generational talent was available. That has to cash in for us to contend. Everything else is window dressing, which is important, but if Z doesn't reach that level, Pels don't contend...

since i enjoy playing with the trade machine:
Hawks get Jalen Suggs and 2 future 1st from Pels
Magic get CJ McCollum
Nets get BI and Herb Jones
Pels get Dejounte Murray, Mikal Bridges, S&T Claxton,
27 Nets firsts (Nets or Suns), Magic future 1st and some 2nds.
Send Larry and 2nds to Charlotte for Nick Richards for a slightly bigger backup big to Claxton.
Murray/Bridges/Trey/Zion/Claxton
Jose//Hawkins/Dyson/Naji/Ryan/Richards/draft pick
That puts us right at the cap line, not tax line but cap line, with 12 players, and that's me giving Naji $8M/yr and Jose $6M/yr. That easily allow us to pay Trey next year, and Mikal the year after that.
While I think we are giving up a good bit here, i think the fit is exactly what we want around Zion.
Murray and Bridges take 7 3's a game. Trey takes 8. They are all excellent C&S 3 point shooters, and they all can score when run off the line. Those 3 are going to take close to 25 3's a game playing off Zion. If we actually play Hawkins, getting 35-37 attempts a game should be easy, and if we found a big who could shoot getting to 40 would be realistic. Bring Karlo over and sign Dario Saric to a deal (both are from Croatia). I think bringing Karlo over helps sign Saric, and Saric helps Karlo's developement and adjusting to America.
and defensively, it sucks losing Herb, but Murray had more deflections than him and Dyson this past year. He's a disruptive defender. Mikal is a legit lock down defender. Trey impressed me with how he defended SGA. They are all good rebounders.
Claxton is a great rim protector and Zion's defense improved dramatically over the year.
I think that team still lacks a killer closer on the perimeter, but if Zion takes that next MVP level step, then it takes so much pressure off Murray/Bridges/Trey to have to create on their own late in games.

This is where I'm at too. You use BI to get Allen this offseason, securing your center for the future. But that still only gets us a second round exit in the playoffs. The following offseason is what is going to make or break this team because like you said...it's going to take CJ+Dyson+Hawkins+multiple first round picks to get THE guy next to Zion.
The only way this is different is if SOMEHOW (this isn't going to happen) Griff manages to swing a mega deal for Allen and Mitchell (he would have to agree to an extension before the trade) and would include everything I mentioned above.
Mitchell
Trey
Herb
Zion
Allen
Gets you to the top of the WCF. But that's not going to happen. Mitchell wants a big market. Best case is BI for Allen/Levert and then we go big game hunting with CJ+Dyson+Hawkins and multiple firsts the following offseason

I think we really need to get Allen. Hawks and Cavs seem like our most realistic options to compete/ upgrade.
1A. Donovan Mitchell
1B. Trae Young
2A. Murray/ Garland
