South Carolina has lost six in a row. If they go one-and-done, they will be on the bubble. Committee likes teams that are heating up and hates those that are backing in. Vandy’s RPI is only four spots better than ours. A 3-2 run against Top 5 RPI opposition could push us past them. Georgia and Kentucky are beatable. (We have a better team ERA than both of them: LINK) Arky probably isn’t. But if we make it to Friday everyone is down to their third or fourth starter and the hotter bats will prevail. And teams looking to make deep runs in the NCAA tourney will be wanting to get home and rest up, opening the door for those still fighting to get in. This could set up nicely for a deep run!

Well, that's the problem, isn't it? We've played Florida, Vandy and Bama, and lost the series to all three. You can argue that we SHOULD have won each series (game 1 against Bama, game 2 against Fla and Vandy), but we didn't. So if you start trying to figure out who's better and who's not, that is likely the first thing they look at.

I know if the situation were reversed, we'd bitch if we were left out in favor of a team we beat head to head.

I wouldn't put a ton of weight on D1 right now, they don't have the correct standings listed. They have Alabama as 12-18 and swept by Auburn, as of right now- and that didn't happen.

Reality is that those projections haven't been updated and don't reflect this weekend, so your snide remark makes you look like an ignorant arse.

We probably did enough this weekend to get in. A win Tuesday would lock it up.

Be better.

Unfortunately the field of 64 is not the 64 best teams. That is killed when you have automatic bids making up half of the field. Many of these automatic bids replace more deserving teams. Same in basketball. And bids denied because of how many other teams in their conference were selected is wrong.

True.

It’s really about being one of the 34 best teams that DID NOT get an auto bid.

The committee doesn’t really do that. They often take 8, 9, sometimes as many as 10 SEC teams. If you are the 9th, 10th, 11th SEC team that gets left out it’s more because you didn’t have a great resume than some sort of “bias”.

I think LSU has done enough to squeeze in. But there is an argument to be made that other teams are just as deserving, so I wouldn’t be totally shocked to see LSU left out.

It’s a shame we’re even having this discussion. I know anything can happen, but damn.

2 wins in the sec tourney and you're in without a question asked.

Every statement like this - about being in or out - is wrong. We can get left out after going 2-2 in the tournament.

The 2 wins would be over Georgia and Kentucky though, RPI 6 and 3.

No doubt, but that’s not enough to earn a berth.

So you on the committee? Otherwise, stfu with statements as if they are facts. You have no way to know this. Maybe a "probably" not enough to earn a berth....

I'd have to guess that of those 30 auto bids, at least 10 would have gotten an at large anyway. That leaves 34 at large bids and you can eliminate about 10 teams ahead of LSU.....so essentially, LSU needs to be in the top 45 right now, and I guarantee you they are that. Whether the committee sees it that way or not who knows.

The same people who said bama should be in the football playoff bc “you can’t convince me they aren’t one of the best 4 teams” Will also say lsu doesn’t deserve to be in the field of 64 bc of their “resume”.

This team is getting better every week. Take away that bad throw against bama and they come in winning five series in a row and 11-4 over last 15. Still, coming in 10-5 over last half of season is still much better than others with similar resumes.

You can ignore the fact that 7 of those wins were against the bottom 3 teams in the league but the committee is definitely going to consider that. LSU is 7-2 against the worst 3 teams in the league and 6-15 against the rest. The purple and gold tinted glasses some of you are using to look at this are just you up for massive disappointment. If you take a blind resume of the 5 teams tied at 13-17 then LSU is at the bottom of all of those unfortunately.

Yea but the committee isn't blind. LSU is the biggest brand in the sport, and the committee knows that

If it’s all about money, LSU is a lock, which I think they should be in anyway. LSU will bring more eyeballs to the tournament than any other school. The 13th conference win along with a brutal SOS should get LSU in the field of 64.

Can you take out the records of those bottom teams from everyone else too?

LSU has a better strength of record than Florida by a wide margin.

SOR:
Vanderbilt 25
Alabama 29
LSU 34
Florida 50
