Being funny helps with attracting a mate, which is more difficult for men. This is my David Attenborough answer.

Humor requires an objective perspective and ability to consider alternative ways of thinking about something. Women are too wrapped up in their first person view which is also heavily influenced by their emotion.

There was a commercial that had a football referee getting his arse chewed out by a coach and just ignored it. They said how does he do that.

I find the majority of women in acute areas of healthcare - such as the er and icu's are hilarious. Humor is a well-abused coping skill that is very well honed in those areas.
