re: SOUNDGARDEN - “Down On The Upside”
Posted by timbo on 5/21/24 at 5:37 pm
I was unemployed when that album came out, so I didn't get a copy of it until a year or two later. I liked Pretty Noose when it came out, but it's kinda hard to listen to now - half the time I skip that one. Rhinosaur is a great song. It's a solid album, but it's no Badmotorfinger or Superunknown....
re: Crazy to think that an NBA Final could be Minnesota and Indiana.

Ratings talk is a pet peeve of mine. Unless you are a big shot with ESPN or a major advertiser, who gives a frick? LSU makes the national championship game, I’m going to love it, even if I’m the only person watching. ...
re: Taylor Swift reportedly had a meeting with Kevin Feige to discuss a role in the MCU
Posted by timbo on 5/20/24 at 5:22 pm
People pass along all kinds of silly MCU rumors to drive traffic. There was some clown who said Tom Cruise was going to have a cameo in the last Doctor Strange movie as Tony Stark. ...
re: Who were some of the bands that smoothed the transition from hair metal to grunge?
Posted by timbo on 5/20/24 at 5:17 pm
Like Faith No More, Living Colour also helped smooth the way for grunge. They rocked, but they weren't hair metal and they were a little outside of the mainstream - I haven't listened to them in years, but I remember really digging their second and third albums. The third record got slept on becaus...
re: Why is STP so underrated?
Posted by timbo on 5/20/24 at 1:00 pm
They were initially seen as a Pearl Jam rip-off and they didn't come from a hip label or a big scene. (I looked down on them as only a 21-year-old could) But they stuck around and made good records. Scott Weiland's drug problems probably also kept them from getting the props they should. They were s...

GNR - they were a lot grittier and dirtier than the average hair metal band that had weak rockers and sappy ballads. Plus, they wore punk influences on their sleeves. ...
re: The Smithereens were /are grossly underrated
Posted by timbo on 5/19/24 at 9:04 pm
I was really in to 11. That was a great album. I think one of the reasons they are forgotten is grunge just kind of overwhelmed those second tier college radio bands. ...
They could invest in a world class golf course to try to attract a major.
I’m not a golf guy at all, but I’m honestly shocked that Austin doesn’t host a big tournament. You would have thought in the past 15-20 years they would have stepped up - Austin becoming a huge city kind of c...
re: Playing God: What Musician Who Died Young Would You Want to live another 10 Years?

Otis Redding would have thrived in the 70s. Lush soul music, deep funk, socially conscious R&B, early disco - he could have done it all. ...

I'm a big fan of the Sip & Feast guy. There's a baked mushroom and spinach pasta dish he did that my wife and I have made a couple of times. He had a shrimp, lemon and orzo dish I want to make....

He won't get fired, he's done too much for that school. He'll retire instead and just say it's not fun with the transfer portal and NIL....
re: the Kinks are vastly underrated
Posted by timbo on 5/14/24 at 7:42 pm
There’s an argument that “You Really Got Me” and “All Day And All of the Night” have proto-metal riffs, and there’s the distortion. There’s a reason why Van Halen covered the first song…....
