Do you ask to give a quick smell of fish at your monger?

I've always thought this was common practice in the culinary world, and I've been doing it for decades now with various fish mongers, but recently ran into a "no" when I asked to give a 3lb salmon filet a whiff before I purchased it.

Thumb's up to J. Alexander's prime rib. Probably my favorite chain restaurant as far as main, sides, salads, those delicious rolls, and atmosphere....

Well over a decade ago when the sous vide thing hit the home market, I purchased a Sous Vide Supreme, which is it's own contained unit.
