re: 19% of employers report that job candidates have brought a parent to the interview
Posted by DarlingClementine on 6/7/24 at 8:54 am
I hope ‘bringing a parent to the interview" just meant a ride, though that is pathetic enough.
Decades ago my husband taught at LSU. One student got a "C" on a paper , and her parent called raving that their kid was a "straight A student" in high school, like that was relevant. I guess the parent...

I purchase one somewhat similar to this one
HOXSURY Anti Theft Travel Bag,Waterproof Sling Chest Bag, Crossbody Multi Pockets Shoulder Bag for Men Women
It works great! The two zipper pockets across the front were especially useful. I dedicated one to passport, cc and an additional i.d. So i...
re: hard cover carry on bags w/ wheels
Posted by DarlingClementine on 6/3/24 at 8:50 am
I use soft side small (carry-on size) duffels with two in line wheels. Many hard sided suitcases with 4 spinner wheels don’t fit carryon requirements, but larger airpcraft let it slide, unless they want to be AH. (The wheels are supposed to be counted on the inches measurement) Smaller aircraft th...

Good luck! It will be an interesting thread!
I was planning on going out in the desert tomorrow to do some photography…..but now I am getting the estate sale en vie....

```````‘What is interesting is how long you will continue to mispronounce their cute words after they stop. My wife and I still say “thlip thlops” instead of flip flops and “fee-drator” for refrigerator. ‘``````
Exactly, not just words but entire phrases become part of the family lexicon. Also, i...
re: Brawl at kindergarten graduation
‘The number of 'graduations' these days it out of hand."
I agree. It’s a money/gift grab, an ongoing attempt to crowdsource our lives from cradle to grave....
re: Building high density apartment complexes in affluent suburbs
Posted by DarlingClementine on 5/22/24 at 5:25 pm
I knew going in that it would almost certainly eventually be developed. However, I figured "regular" neighborhoods, not apartments! I do think the owners (heirs) have a right to sell it…..but there needed to be a middle ground between horse pasture and multi unit apartment building.
...
10 years ago we were looking at a house that backed up to a 9 acre field with horses and cows. I asked what it was zoned before we bought. (I don’t remember the name, but ag or something like that). We bought the house. Almost immediately developers were trying to get the pasture behind us rezoned ...
re: Packing cubes, y/n
Posted by DarlingClementine on 5/21/24 at 6:07 pm
Absolutely yes! I used them recently on a 3+ week trip to Africa, and they were essential for keeping stuff organized. Instead of digging through my duffel like a squirrel, I could pull out the appropriate packing cube. I used one for pants, another for shirts, one for underwear/socks, one for meds/...
I am a female, so, no.
I doubt if I would be much help!
I have AAA now for that if it happens to me., and I would get to an exit before even calling them.
A lady in Utah was obliterated this week while doing that exact thing, another motorist not paying attention and slammed into her.
I lon...
re: Why do people always blame the victim when things happen?
I would go scorched earth with those 2 beeches until the end of time. They could apologize a million times, and I would neither accept it, nor be at an event with them present EVER.
If the story is true, there is no excuse. That was a LIVING creature, not someone’s iPhone, or EarPods, or some oth...
re: Do you have a friend that never says ‘thank you?’
Posted by DarlingClementine on 5/15/24 at 2:14 pm
My husband would always pick up the tab when eating out. If it was always someone different, I would have figured next time they might offer, But it was the same folks over and over. Sitting on their hands when the check came.
Oh, he might get an offhand "thanks" but reciprocation would have be...
re: What’s your favorite clothing brand?
Posted by DarlingClementine on 5/10/24 at 10:39 am
I like quality brands, but I usually buy them at estate sales, most times with tags still on them.
I also hit Costco, especially end of season when even Costco marks stuff down to $3-$5. I bought Eddie Bauer travel pants there last fall for $5/ea,. Lightweight to pack, quick dry. Carry-on for t...
Very interesting, I had not heard of him. (I watched the video and read the obit) Seemed like he lived life on his own terms.
I almost always have a camera with me, and have taken train graffiti photos when stopped at r crossings. I would have passed over the tags shown in favor of the colorful, ...
re: Anyone else not on speaking terms with a parent?
"It's crazy how many times the idea of an inheritance can send a loving family into complete chaos’
Absolutely true. I’ve worked for estate sale companies for years, and have seen it rip families apart. Not just kids being greedy, but parents leaving things inequitably that causes friction. (Lik...
Loved both my parents and miss my dad (died at 97 y.o., still sharp). Mom is 100 and her memory loops a bit, but otherwise good. They were great parents, us three kids all turned out fine and are also quite close.
I see dysfunctional families all around and know we were blessed with great parent...
