Normal names on this team like Charlie, Jack, David, Jacob etc.
This is rec ball btw. Jefferson Parish. It's not a pay to play tournament. They had to advance there through several tournaments ...

12U World Series in Atlanta instead of Cooperstown b/c parents suck
Posted by LaffyTaffy7 on 8/4/23 at 12:01 pm
My nephew is representing Louisiana in the Dixie Youth 12U world series this weekend.
The parents of the team were given the choice between Cooperstown, NY at the Field of Dreams or Atlanta. The parents overwhelmingly voted GA b/c of New York's vaccine requirements.
Sucks for my nephew. Playi...
re: Do North Face Backpacks hold up?
Posted by LaffyTaffy7 on 7/26/23 at 9:28 am
The issue with today's North Face is that it is certainly not as well made as the ones from a decade ago. The North Face used to be decent gear, but now it's for middle-schoolers... That should tell you all you need to know about the current quality.
I got my step-daughter a Tom Bihn Synik 30. A ...
re: Car prices aren’t coming down anytime soon.

Luckily I accidentally timed the market perfectly.
Needed a new car in April of 2020. My old vehicle was 10+ yrs old. Covid had hit the month prior and everyone was still freaking out. Got a $35k sedan for $27k($23k after trading in my 10 yr old vehicle). 0% interest too, so I financed.

Is the Amazon Search by Seller Filter Missing for Anyone Else?
Posted by LaffyTaffy7 on 6/6/23 at 8:02 pm
I do a lot of shopping on Amazon and as of this past week, the search by seller filter is gone.
I only buy ships and sold by Amazon products and can no longer filter these items. Trying to find anything on the app now that isn't some crazy name brand Chinese junk is next to impossible.

I've been researching this. It's called urban stealth camping. I won't lie, part of me wants to sell my home and most of my possessions and bank about $650k. Then work for 7-10 years while living in my SUV and retire in 7-10 yrs.
Most get memberships to Planet Fitness for showers, eat main meal a...

re: Can someone help me explain how people are affording a house in today's market?
Posted by LaffyTaffy7 on 4/4/23 at 11:49 pm
Bought my 1876sq ft 1960's ranch home in 2012 for $145,000 in Dallas. It had been remodeled before we bought it too, so it was move in ready. Now just a little over 10 yrs later, it's worth about $450k judging by recent comps in my neighborhood.
We're lucky that we bought when we did, but the pr...

We completely remodeled our house a few years ago and had all new 3/4" wood floors put in. I lobbied for no shoes in the house, even for guests, as it makes cleaning the floors a breeze. The wife, who's not as OCD as me, nixed that idea.
That said, we rarely wear shoes when home inside the house,...
re: Charles Lindbergh: American Hero
Posted by LaffyTaffy7 on 3/25/23 at 8:32 am
Just listened to a Lindbergh baby kidnapping case and that dude was a total a-hole. Into Eugenics, he had numerous affairs with German women and fathered like 7 or 8 kids.
His first kid, the kidnap victim, had hammer feet and rickets which embarrassed Lindbergh. Will Rogers was over there one da...

He's almost 50 yrs old.
He's fine moving to Phoenix but he doesn't want to take on a big house note nor does he feel like maintenance on a big h...
re: 2017 used car with 12,000 miles - How is this possible?
Posted by LaffyTaffy7 on 3/21/23 at 11:48 am
Traded in my 2010 4Runner in 2020 and it had 33,541 miles, so less than 5,000 miles a year.
I work about 1.5 miles away from my house. Grocery store is about a mile away. Restaurants and bars are about a mile or two away.
Road trips we take the wife's Acura RDX as it's a nicer ride....

[quote]Looking at some of the prices of electronic equipment back in the day, it's amazing how families had that kind of disposable money to spend on VCRs, tvs, etc.

This. I remember my Dad bought us a VCR for Christmas. It cost like $900 ...
