re: Seeking advice from the 60+ OT crowd

[quote]Great advice. At 64 you won't care what a lot of people think about anything. Open a savings account only (hopefully pays good interest) with another bank that is in your driving area other than your main one. Mobile or physically deposit a few spare $s as you get them. It will add up, especi...

We saved up for years and bought a house on the lake. It’s not extravagant by any means, but it’s nice enough and has the right amenities and location. We bought it as our permanent home. We waited for the right timing and bought boats and jet skis so everyone can be entertained. Fortunately, we did...

I’m a happily married 60 year old with 5 kids. We have close friends that are a 36 year old couple that are committed DINKs. I know I shouldn’t, but I do push them toward having kids upon occasion. They know where I stand, and love them dearly.
I hate that they have chosen to not have kids. Ther...
re: Road hazard warranty through Sam's Club

I’m surprised they are honoring the road hazard. I had a set of Yokohama Geolanders on my truck that I bought local. I busted the sidewall with very few miles and my local guy laughed in my face when I asked about the warranty.
Correction: They weren’t Geolanders. I just remembered they ordered ...

72 vette with removable hardtop. Update to fuel injection, suspension, brakes, electronic ignition, etc.
Big SUV
Big 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive pickup.
I’ve got the last two, and am half hearted looking for the vette, but I’ll probably settle for a 2008 or newer with the LS3 engine. It doesn...

re: Bob Seger - Quintessential Song?

Night Moves.
The first verse is the quintessential high school song. As I’ve aged, I’ve really learned to appreciate the latter verses even more.
The song moves me. ...

Unpopular opinion, but I think Lynyrd Skynyrd, while Ronnie was alive, was the best southern rock band.
Before Duane died, ABB was untouchable. Duane and Greg were incredible. They were the core of the best band of their day. When Duane died, they weren’t the band they were before.
Skynyrd w...

I’ve got an 08 Duramax with 380,000 miles. I’ll keep driving it until the wheels fall off.
My wife has an 08 Navigator with about 180,000 miles and she’s in no hurry to get rid of it.
I’m may get a C6 vette as a third car, but definitely don’t foresee getting a new ride. EVER. ...
re: Jesus was crucified on Friday and rose from the dead on Sunday

[quote]So, the obvious question is why would they, those who fled from Him at the end, only days later dedicate their life to telling the world about Him? Why would they endure the privations, torture, and horrible deaths for Him? What caused such a gargantuan change of heart in these men? What was ...

The Jewish day begins at sunset.
Jesus died Friday evening before the Sabbath. He was dead on the Sabbath.
They found the tomb empty on Sunday so the third day was well underway by that point.
It wasn’t 72 hours. It was 3 days. ...

re: Yucatan/QR road trip. Ideas?

My son and I went a few years back. Flew to Cancun and rented a car. Drove the coast to Mahaual and scuba dived for a week. Stopped by Bacalar and Chetumal for a day trip. Really neat towns. Saw a Mennonite farmer and his wife speed walking behind him trying to keep up walking through the streets of...

Skynyrd vs ABB
Posted by sparkinator on 2/22/24 at 10:47 pm
My take: Skynyrd is the best band America has ever produced. And it’s sad just how good Skynyrd and Ronnie on his solo projects could have gotten in the coming years. But they left behind a catalog that is unsurpassed. When Steve and Ronnie died in the plane crash, it ended LS. I’m not referring to ...
