jlove I don't post in here much but you are better off renting until rates come down or prices drop on homes. A 160k won't take you far and if you are planning on having children it probably won't be in the best area for public schools if you purchase a home.
Social security number compromised in AT&T breach
Posted by HarveyBanger on 4/17/24 at 7:56 pm
As though I needed another reason to hate AT&T.
A couple weeks ago I received an email from ATT letting me know my personal information was compromised in their recent data breach. I am now getting notifications from Experian IdentityWorks and Chase that my social security number has been found ...

re: Naples, FL- Where to stay

Ritz Carlton on Vanderbilt Beach is tough to beat. If you don’t stay there you can still do beach side dining at their restaurant. Being on west coast of South Florida the sunsets are amazing. ...

It’s interesting you bring this up. Recently was sold their new ATT internet Air. Salesman swore up and down it was free two week trial. The day I activated it I got a bill.
ATT is well known for their deceptive sales tactics ...

re: U.S. States Losing and Gaining Population

I am one of the those people who left Louisiana in my mid 20’s in search of greener pastures. Landed on my feet in another state with the idea that I would move back to Louisiana at some point with my family still being there.
5 years later I have a wife and kid in Kentucky. This area feels li...

re: Which one is better for long term?

One is an S&P index fund (VFIAX) and one is a total market index (VTSAX). Tons of overlap between them so pick either one. Extremely high likelihood the returns after any amount of time will be nearly identical ...
re: Car wreck/insurance question
Posted by HarveyBanger on 2/24/24 at 8:09 pm
I handle injury claims. Specifically attorney represented injury claims. Normal people with a moral compass would be absolutely appalled at the things plaintiff attorneys will pull to drive up an injury claim. It’s disgusting. Just yesterday I was looking at a minor backing accident. Attorney is all...
re: Fort Lauderdale or Marco island

I was in Marco island a couple weeks ago. In laws have a place in Naples and we usually spend a day or two down in Marco.
I’d take it over Ft Lauderdale without a doubt
Weather was upper 70s. Water was too cold to get but I would guess by first week of April that would change ...
re: LA 529 Start Plan for HS Tuition
Posted by HarveyBanger on 2/13/24 at 12:14 pm
The benefits of setting up a plan would be that you can deduct that from your LA state income taxes. It won’t affect federal taxes.
It’s probably worth it however the 529 is more designed for college savings. I am not aware of any matching you can get but I don’t live in Louisiana anymore so im ...
