Thanks JR, been looking forward to this trip for months. Our three kids are grown with either spouse or very significant other, and we have a strapping 5 yo grandson who can’t wait to go to the island. All of them will be with us for the week. Rented the night bow fishing charter for the grown kid...

It didn’t take long, we are in enough topography to generate about 110 acres of watershed (estimate from pond builder), so more than enough. Filled-in in about six months, dipped a little during last summer’s drought, but quickly returned to full. ...

We’ve been debating the name. Believe it was washed away by Rita, circa 2005. We think it was called Charamie Landing (at Cigar Marina)c, but aren’t certain. One story restaurant. Pics of family on the wall. Southern Living write up framed on the wall.
An RV park now sits there. ...

No crappie it is.
Will need a boat product to fish it at some point, what do you use? Thinking classic aluminum John with trolling motor, but have looked at the petit two-person mini pontoon like BPS prowler. ...

Stocking Crappie and Bass in same pond
Posted by MAEFIELD on 4/24/24 at 2:33 pm
Built a pond two summers ago, 6 acres, levee area 11 feet deep (about a quarter of pond), rest about 5 feet deep. Stocked it in March with fathead minnows, coppernose, shellcracker, and bass. Thinking of adding Black Crappie. The literature is mixed on whether stocking both bass and crappie in a ...

Vette, No chance we leave anything behind, our crew always keeps it clean.
I can distinctly remember a few things from my youth on the Island:
- picking up tar balls and gafftop catfish skeletons along the beach.
- catching hundreds of specs (any size, before creel and size limits) and white...

Surf fishing GI
Posted by MAEFIELD on 4/23/24 at 12:44 pm
Headed to Grand Isle second week of June. Went a lot growing up in the 70s, haven’t surf fished in decades though. Rented a camp about midway down the island.
Appreciate any lure/ set up tips. ...
re: Anyone got any updates on the Bluffs

Indeed it was 17. 60 feet of elevation change from tee box down to green. About a two club difference. Wind often left to right, pushing ball over pond. Great pre-cursor to the creek side uphill par 5 finishing hole of 18.
Many, many fond memories at the bluffs. ...

An option to purchase was agreed upon by buyer a few weeks ago. The buyer has long history with Bluffs and is credible. Intent is to return the course to condition of its prominent days. He is raising money; it is still a long journey ahead…but there is renewed hope. ...
