We would like to hike. Don't mind flying. Don't want to be hot. Mountains would be nice. Potentially leave Thurs afternoon or Friday morning and get back sunday.

Was thinking like Boulder/Morrison. Any other ideas would be great as unfortunately, we've only done family beach vacations. TIA

Agreed with cgrand.

It would help if you tell us where you are departing from.

Cheap flight to Atlanta then drive to cashiers/brevard and get an Airbnb. More hiking and waterfalls than you care to see

Guadalupe Mountains NP near Carlsbad, NM. Highs in the 70s this time of year. Terrain for all skill levels.

March

Unless you like deep snow and winter condition Boulder is out.

Pinhoti trail in Alabama is great. Perfect time of year also. There are shuttles available to drop you off and hike back to vehicle. About a 7 hour drive from BR.

You can pick how many miles you want to do.

NM sounds nice but I just got back from northern NM in Oct on a mule deer hunt. Plus wife hates being near the Mexico border

Just say your wife doesn't like Mexicans.

Yeah, this is a really dumb topic. You want to hike mountains in March, and you're allergic to Mexicans.

Some of the most beautiful shite I've ever seen in my life. Second it. Waking up in those hills is even something I haven't experienced on Mt Fuji.

First thing I would do is buy your wife a map so she doesn’t say anything that stupid in decent company. New Mexico is one of the big states.

But if I wanted to fly from Baton Rouge to hike somewhere in March I would take the direct flight to DC and go to harpers ferry, WV. It’s post card pretty with plenty of nice hiking and incredible history, not buried in snow in March, and all the Mexicans are tactfully hidden away in restaurant kitchens.

Not saying those areas are bad, but there is a ton between Dahlonega's Ferry (GA) and Klingman's Dome (For instance, Tennessee) that doesn't involve DC or VA in any way, which is gladly preferable.

Personal preference.

Living in Greenville, SC, spoiled me for hiking in my backyard.

There is a book describing the hiking trails in the Smoky Mountain Park near Gatlinburg. I have made a bunch of those hikes throughout the years.

Fiery gizzard trail near Chattanooga. Other good trails in the area too.
