I’m taking a trip out to Pioneertown, CA and Joshua Tree National Park. We are going to stay in Palm Springs, but I’ve considered flying into another airport and driving over. LAX is the furthest at 3 hours drive, so I probably won’t fly into LAX, but I’m looking for reasons I may want to avoid the following airports:

San Diego : SAN
Long Beach : LGB
Santa Ana : SNA
Burbank : BUR
Ontario/ San Bernardino : ONT

Are any of these nightmare airports, located in terrible parts of town or any other reason to avoid?

Thanks in advance.

Flew into Burbank for the LSU-UCLA game, I had no problems at all. I would use this airport again if I visit that area again.

Ontario is a nice airport…flown to and from the countless times. It’s in the City of Industry, which isn’t that nice…but there are some good hotels. It’s been a bit…but that’s out where you want to go.

We are targeting flying into BURBANK with the prices being cheaper and the times being nicer for us....

From Burbank, any recs to shoot out etc? Currently we are looking to site see around LA and end that day with a Dodger game... the next day do Disneyland.

Any LA area recs appreciated.

I've been to Ontario and it was a great airport that's not in a terrible part of town. It would be the closest to where you are going. You would still have to drive quite a distance if you flew into Burbank, Long Beach or John Wayne at Santa Ana.

Watch out for the time and date you fly into each airport. Palm Springs is only a little over an hour from Ontario, but it can easily get to 2-3 hours during the evening commute or on the Friday afternoon of any holiday weekend. Morning traffic shouldn't be a factor headed that way though.
