Leaving June 5 and our base is in Lauterbrunnen for entire trip. Plan on driving down from Zurich and stopping in Lucerne on our way to Lauterbrunnen to spend a good bit of time and have lunch. Most of the trip will be spent in the Jungfrau region with a day trip to Zermatt mixed in. I’m looking for some traditional Swiss food spots to try all their local specialties but am open to other things as well. We aren’t looking for Michelin star or anything over the top but just good food in the $$-$$$ range I guess. I know several on this board have made this trip and would like to know if you had any must try eating places. Will just be me and Mrs jkyle and we don’t really drink so not interested in the good cocktail places. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

Try The Old Swiss House in Lucerne. They make Wiener schnitzel table side. Very traditional. Hope you are staying Lucerne more than a few hours. A full day with a “Golden Ticket” around the lake and over Mt Pilatus is arguably as good Lauterbrunnen. Just a different kind of beauty.

Yeah it looks great. We will be coming down after a long overnight flight so we don’t plan to be too adventurous on day 1. I do have the Bernese oberland pass though so I may come back bc it does include Lucerne. It seemed to be a much better value paired with a half fare card for what we are trying to do vs the major Swiss Travel pass.

This will be pretty random, but some of the best Cantonese food I’ve had was at Tham Restaurant on the main drag in Mürren. It’s a chef and his wife, the only employees we saw.

You’ll have plenty of fondue, schnitzel, sausages…this was a nice change of pace for our crew.

In Lucerne
The Old Swiss House
Atmospheric Swiss restaurant with very good food. Right next to the Lion Monument

In Zermatt
Le Gitan Grill Room
This is the restaurant in the Darioli Hotel in the middle of town on the main street.
Delicious food in a nice setting

I have been to the Stadtkeller too. It is a fun place with live beer garden type music. The Old Swiss House is a more serious restaurant with better food.

My Stadtkeller memory-
My wife was reluctantly pulled out of the audience to get up on the stage to blow the Alpine horn and chug beer. She did both admirably.
I told the people at the table that she does not like beer and would probably not want to chug it.
When she got back to the table I told her I was surprised.
She said “They were calling me Miss New Orleans and the audience liked that. I wanted to uphold the honor of New Orleans and therefore didn’t want to refuse the beer “

After dinner we were strolling around town and across the wooden bridge and several people waved at her and said “Hey Miss New Orleans “
Fun time.

Thanks for the info. Our Airbnb in Lauterbrunnen is close by a co-op so we will prob eat in some but def want to go out to dinner /lunch a bit too. Anything in the Lauterbrunnen/grindelwald/Interlaken areas that you’d recommend?
