We're taking a family, wife (no pics) and 14 y/o daughter (certainly no pics), trip to Boston/Cape Cod mid-July.

Been to Boston, and we know what we're doing there, but have never been to Cape Cod.

Any must do's?

I definitely want to check out a Cape Cod league game, so hopefully LSU has someone playing, so that would definitely be the game to go to, but any other thoughts on maybe the best park/town to watch a game would be great.

Thank you in advance.

I’ve heard Bear Week in Provincetown is not to be missed.

I always picked the destinations by which teams had the most LSU players. For one reason or another I ended in Hyannis the most. Fairly centrally located and very crowded. All the ferries to and from the offshore islands go out of there.

To note, there are four regions to Cape Cod, which you can find on a quick Images search. Personally, I'd go Lower or Outer. Provincetown aside, Outer is not as densely-populated + has much better beaches, in my opinion. My dad has a spot in Truro that is perfect for a quiet, peaceful "retreat," but still just ~15 minutes to P-Town for dinner, drinks, etc. Maybe check out some homes in Truro and Wellfleet, but will caution rentals go quick and you might see many require a week stay.

Most Cape League teams are sprinkled through Upper, Mid and Lower, with more than a few in Lower. Most agree that Eldredge (Orleans Firebirds) has the best park to watch a game, which is probably the most-convenient spot from any Outer Cape towns.

If you want to see LSU players then check the roster sometime during July before you go because players do come and go, especially pitchers depending on workload after a long season.

I've been to Hyannis and Bourne but you can't go wrong with any of them. They basically play at that town's local high school or field.

Bourne had two lsu players.
Hyannis had several ole miss and msu players and Ron Polk was an asst the year I went.

Cape Cod league for sure. Best ballpark of the ones I've visited is without a doubt Chatham's. Most are high school stadiums.

Depending on your schedule you can catch multiple games in a day. Pretty sure I caught three in one day.

We stayed in Chatham which is pretty central.

Traffic on the Cape in the summer is rough on hwy 6 (main artery). Any longer trips you try to get done in the morning. Once the afternoon hits it's not worth it to travel far.

Drive-in movie in Wellfleet was fun.

Riding bikes on the Cape Cod Rail Trail was nice.

Whale watching out of P-Town was a fun excursion.

Definitely worth mention if you're staying Upper, Mid and Lower. Thins out significantly in the Outer Cape because much of the land is protected and there aren't many homes (not including P-Town, of course) relative to the other three Cape regions.

Thanks, everyone!

We will be staying at the Winstead Inn in Harwich.

Hope it's nice...looks nice.

Chatham looks close for Cape Cod League games, so maybe I just hit that park (looks like that's maybe the best?).

Best food in Harwich???

Cape Cod in July is awesome. My folks had a place in Harwich Port dating back to the mid 1990's. Sadly we had to sell it in 2022 when our dad passed and my mother went into a nursing home. Lot of memories of the Cape and Harwich Port/Chatham is my favorite part. Hated selling as I don't know how much we'll get back now.

I know where the Winstead is but have not been to it. There is another one in Harwich Port near the beach so I wasn't clear which one (near the public beach access, which requires a sticker on your car to park, pain in the arse, etc.). If you are used to Florida beaches, beaches on the Cape are a big adjustment. My youngest first visited there when she was like 5 and said "Nana, this beach sucks." She's spoiled by Destin.

Harwich Port is a neat town but Chatham is the fave. Lot of nice shops and places to eat really in both towns. Chatham ballpark is not far from you.

Ferries go out of Harwich Port to Nantucket. I've done these several times. Freedom Ferry is the company and you likely should get a reservation. Much prefer Nantucket over Martha's Vinyard. Last I went in 2022, there is a building right next to where you get off the ferry with an LSU flag so it still might be there. If you just want to walk around Nantucket, don't get a vehicle as parking is a bitch, but if you do want to get out around the island, they do rent jeeps within a short walk of the ferry. You can go out to see the seals on Great Point which is very cool. You'll need to drive on the beach with deflated tires. Takes getting used to but its worth it. Murray's Toggery Shop is nice for clothes, and I'm coincidentally wearing Nantucket Reds today. Or The Whale is a cool restaurant there with a nice area out back. Whaling Museum is neat too. If you rent a vehicle, try to go by Siasconset and drive around a bit. Houses have flowers on them. Very cool.

If you go to Martha's Vinyard, Edgartown is the favorite by far. Less crowded. Steamship Authority out of Hyannis will be closest ferry for you.

As for food, I'll start with the best - Sundae School in Harwich Port for ice cream. Best I've ever had. Gets crowded at night. Otherwise, the old man was a big fan of Brax which is casual dining in Harwich Port. My mother preferred Clancy's, but that's more in Dennisport, which is not too far. In Chatham, Wild Goose Tavern in the Chatham Wayside Inn is pretty good. Chatham Bars Inn is really nice too and there is a great view from the veranda in the front. If you want a lobster roll, go to the Chatham Fish Pier. You can watch boats unload but there is also a small shack there that sells the best lobster rolls, fried fish, etc. That's a can't miss.

I'm actually headed to Boston in a couple of months to bring my mom to her final resting point. Not sure we'll make it to the Cape but we will try.

Happy you are going. Truly a beautiful place.

In my opinion it was the best of the four I went to. Orleans is also nice - note on Orleans - there are no stands - you have to bring your own chair. But it is a unique place and well worth a visit. Like I said you can catch multiple games within a day if you like.

here is a map. Harwich, Brewster, Chatham, Orleans, and Yarmouth are all super close to where you will be staying.

I visited the Chatham field but they weren't playing at home that day, it's nice and that whole area is neat.

Definitely Chatham fish pier for eats.
Also, check the website for their schedule and you can watch them unload their catch.

We also did ferry to Nantucket and MV
Nantucket has the Cisco brewery

Craigville Beach in Centerville is nice. Martha's Vineyard is a great excursion- island is very nice. The Dockside Inn in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard is owned by an LSU grad who grew up on the island. Even flies the LSU flag. Wife and I stayed there. Owner is a hoot!
