I know they have a lot of little beach islands around there. Looking for a place for the wife and I to go for a long weekend. Any suggestions on an area and places to stay. I saw an advertisement for Bungalow Beach Resort. Thanks.

Everything I've read has said to go to St. Petersburg and the surrounding beaches

We thought Lido Key Beach and the little St Armands area was cool. IDK where to stay.

Sanibel or Captiva

Could also do Boca Grande. The beach club there is amazing.

closest beach to Tampa airport is Clearwatrer Beach. But all the beaches from Clearwater south are nice - incl St, Pete and Ana Maria island already mentioned (Bungalow appears to be located there).

I lived in St Pete for a long time. Anna Maria is super crowded. SPB and Clearwater are both pretty touristy like the panhandle. Get out the metro area. The best beaches in mainland America are on the lower west coast of Florida just a short drive south. Could also fly into Ft Myers or Sarasota if needed.

Sanibel if it’s recovered enough.

Not nearly as crowded as Destin beaches. Summer is the slow season for the AMI area.

For a 3-star hotel, it’s a little on the pricey side. FWIW, any beach resort that’s in close proximity to Tampa will be overpriced and overcrowded all year long. That goes for all of the big metro cities in Florida. The panhandle is the only part of FL that doesn’t have this problem since it’s sparsely populated and isn’t a year-round tourist destination.

Named them above…

I like Englewood Beach because I fish, dive and don’t want a soul near me while I’m relaxing.

Sanibel / Captiva are both great golf cart only.

Marco Island has an amazing Marriott and the best beach resort high rise on that side.

Boca Grande beach club is very charming great rooms.

Not the worst time to go but you can still get very hot, very humid days. At least there's the water. You've gotten some solid suggestions. Personally I'd do Sanibel or Captiva as they're quaint and closer to RSW.

Local here...avoid Clearwater beach unless you want Pensacola light.

If you are looking for a good hotel on beach, the Don Cesar is great in St. Pete

Locals pick ->

1. Indian Rocks Beach
2. Indian Shores
3. Other beaches south of Indian Shores

In Indian Rocks beach couple of fun hotels (old school) and ton's of AirBnb. It is small down living on beach and all three are easy drives from airport. If you do make it down, reply here and will drop some dinning links.
