5 Days in Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park

Looking for recs on some good (easy to moderate) hikes to take the kids on with some nice views. Also some stuff to do on the days we won’t be hiking

When are you going?
There’s a new mountain roller coaster in Estes.
Go horse riding.
White water rafting.
Gem Lake is melted out. I always liked East Meadow off East Inlet in Grand Lake at sunrise/early morning.
Alberta Falls to Mills Lake & the Loch. Glacier Gorge trailhead.

Our family is going next month. Here is what we are planning on doing. Not sure if this will help. We personally like to stay in a spot and take mini day trips to explore the whole area.
We are staying in Golden so we will be more centrally located.
Day 1 - Rockies game, Meow Wolf and then go to Red Rocks Amphitheater to walk around. We wanted to stay at lower elevation our first couple of days in case we had altitude issues.
Day 2 - Colorado Springs - Cheyenne Zoo and Garden of Gods thinking of renting e-bikes to explore Garden of Gods
Day 3 - Whitewater rafting in Kremmling. Pass through the towns of Granby and Winter Park on our way back.
Day 4 - Estes Park and RMNP - make sure you book your reservation for RMNP. They just opened a couple of weeks ago through June. Haven’t looked at specific trails but we do know we want to walk around Bear Lake
Day 5 - UTV tour in Leadville and then go to Georgetown and ride on the Georgetown Loop railroad and you stop at a gold mine and pan for gold.
We still have details to figure out but there seems like there is so much to go to in the whole area.

Check out the Bear, Nymph, Dream, Emerald Lake(s) route. It’s generally the best starting spot for what you are asking.
Need to get to the trailhead early.
My favorite hike is SkyPond, but might be too challenging based on your post and ages of your kids.

Day 1. Visit the town and get used to elevation. Plenty to do for a full day. Let me know if you need recs.
Day 2. Trail Ridge road. Stop by Beaver visitor center first.
Day 3. Hiking. I recommended a few hikes earlier.
Day 4. White water rafting or horseback riding depending on age of kids.
Day 5. Keep open for things you discover. But make park reservations just in case you want to go back.
Find time for a picnic by a creek. That’s my first memory of RMNP…and that was 40 years ago. Been at least a dozen times since.

Yes to this! And when he says early, he means like 7 am if you want to park at the lot by the trailhead.

Obviously you can check out The Stanley Hotel which was the inspiration for The Shining.
We hiked the 3 lakes that were mentioned in December 2022, so there was hardly anyone in RMNP. The lakes were all frozen solid. Very cool.
Anyway, we rode around a lot inside RMNP and outside of it looking for wildlife. There were a lot of elk and deer inside the park, but we also saw a bunch of elk along Devil's Gulch Rd which runs northeast from Estes Park. They will be more scarce in the summer months I would think.
We also saw a bighorn sheep along Big Thompson Canyon Dr just east of EP, which is a very cool drive.
