I'm trying to figure out how to get more use out of an iPad on my boat. It's super useful as a 2nd chart plotter. The problems I'm having are the sun, spray-proofing, and mounting it.

Ideally I'd have it mounted on the console, waterproof, and immue to overheating, and not spend as much as a new chartplotter cost to get that. Do yall have any good ideas?

I've tried to come up with something to work. I fish the marsh mostly so I just want maps, water temp and depth. But its mostly tablets are made for indoor use and the ones I have come across that claim super brightness are from questionable origins. also have to factor in the heat it will generate at that brightness level. for instance if you leave your phone in the sun sometimes it get stuck in a cooldown mode. for someone in the north or during winter it might be more feasible.

I'd probably just get a ruggedized tablet. There are some made specifically for boats. It will run Android though.

I'm fine with android. Any suggestions?

I already have the iPad so that's Mt incentive here. I've already blown almost all my boat money for the year...

What location are you trying to mount it in? Console or front deck? Ive thought about trying this several times and dont think I could ever get past the screen not being bright enough.

I assume RAM would offer some type of mount that could work.

Console. A ram mount would work, but the damn thing overheats really quickly.

Eta: I thought about rigging up a 12 volt fan, a sun shade, a ram mount... that's getting a little bit trashy even by my standards though
