You should support Wycombe Wanderers if you live in South Louisiana.

Wycombe Wanderers are an ancient club in England. They recently got promoted to the Championship (2nd tier of English footy). Heres why you should care, they are owned by 2 South Louisiana investors. Peter and ROb Couhig. Peter is a baton rouge guy and his family still resides in town. Additionally, he is involved in a number of other local business ventures. The club is an absolute underdog story and supporting them also can have an indirect impact on south louisiana. The club plays a uniquely american style and Pete proudly represented Louisiana on his hat throughout the season, even on TV and in interviews after the big match yesterday where they beat Oxford at Wembley to get promoted. Its been cool to see the club fly though the ranks in england the last few years but theyre one good season away from the premiership so they could use the international support now more than ever.

From what I read, they're probably going to get absolutely smashed in the Championship next season.

But frick it, I'm in. Let's ride.

Thats correct, the lads only had 9 men show up to preseason training this year and somehow turned it around. Their manager is in a band part-time and they have the smallest stadium in EFL 1 this year which may be the smallest ever in the championship next year.

Their salary cap and options increase significantly next year in the championship so they may be able to sustain themselves if they make the right moves.

Imagine writing this post and not paying any respect to Akinfenwa.

That is a cool story and Akinfenwa is a legend (TYFYS)

But can you explain this part of your post?

Overseas american soccer is known for its physicality and directness. not a lot of tikataka passing like you will find in latin america and south western europe. Obviously these are generalizations but wycombe plays a very direct and physical style. They were 2nd to last or last in almost every possession statistic but their opponent last night (oxford utd) was 1st in almost every possession statistic but wycombe still won the match. Peter played club ball in baton rouge growing up, helped start the program at catholic high and played at georgetown so the american style is ingrained in him, which is why its so cool to see it implemented in his club now

Gotcha. I wouldn't call that "uniquely" American which is what tripped me up

Excellent post.
Saw the dude in a hat that had Louisiana outline on it yesterday.
Love the subbed forward.
Hope they do well in the championship next year.

I completely forgot about this.

With some cheeky loan signings they could shithouse their way to a decent season.

That kick-ball?

Just watched 5 years of youth soccer, I think I’m an expert on how that’s played.
