So watching the trophy presentation…

Musah wasn’t willing to shake Parlow’s hand. To be clear, he was respectful about it too. I’m assuming that’s a Ramadan thing?

Muslim thing. generally they won’t have physical contact with a woman in that nature.

The hand across the chest showed friendly respect.

Can we talk about how Tim Ream doesn’t make a single bad decision?

What’s pathetic is that the officials seem to care more about naughty words than shite being thrown at players. Just let them play. Who gives a shite about the puto chants??

Was there much thrown on the field? I’m traveling so I had to watch the game on my work laptop and the WiFi isn’t great, but I didn’t notice much of anything being thrown tonight.

Also one of the least chippy games between the two countries in an important match.

I think a competent (non-hispanic) ref helped this, but also, I got the sense that for the first time I can ever remember, Mexico went into this match like they knew we were the better side. These last four years of beating them into submission has done some shite to their players.

Good lord our starting 11 tonight:

6 play in the Premier League
3 in Italy (for 2 of the top teams in Serie A)
Dest plays for a Champions League team in PSV and of course Haji is scoring at will in tGOATship.

I don't have the patience to do Mexicos breakdown, but man we've come a long way.

And then think about the subs we made tonight:

- Cardoso, starter in La Liga
- Balogun, starter in Ligue 1
- Musah, Serie A rotation player
- Tillman, starter on the best Eredivesie squad and a Bayern loanee
- Aaronson, Bundesliga rotation player

Obviously we still have a long way to go to compete with the global powers but it’s pretty exciting to realize this is the new baseline for us

We're inching ever so closer to the days when we get to argue about whether or not solid European starters got screwed by being left off the final 23-26

FYI 21 of 23 of our roster ply their trade in Europe. Only 7 of 23 Mexicans ply their trade in Europe.

The last competitive match we lost to Mexico in 2019 Mexico had 7 of 23 in Europe we had 6 of 23.

I heard this but don't know details. Don't the Mexican clubs make it really difficult to buy young Mexican players? Like they set a stupid high price tag for them? So those players end up staying in Mexico instead of going to Europe?

There was in the first half during a corner I believe.

But it happens in other games. I’m just saying in general, they make a bigger stink about a crowd chant than players getting assaulted with objects thrown at them.

Maybe they should have called a spade a spade, and call out the perpetrators, the Mexicans.

As I understand it this is a two pronged problem. 1. They set too high a price for most European clubs to buy. 2. They pay their players enough to dissuade from looking abroad.

"We will continue to urge fans to support their teams positively and with respect for the opposition and all participants in the game."

What an absurd statement. So fans can't trash talk each other? Concacaf needs to stay the hell out of what fans should or shouldn't say. Let fans be fans.

My thing is, the Punta chant is just about gone. It only comes out when they are getting beat and they WANT to turn the game into a circus

Don’t acknowledge it and punish them after the fact. They don’t care about the game that is all but over. Make them think about tomorrow

I know this is kind of off topic but what is the reason that GGG won't create an attack around Gio? He is by far our most creative player. Especially when teams are defending deep, wouldn't it be best for him to be on the ball the most pulling the strings? Set Adams and either Weston/Musah behind him in a double pivot. Put Plulisic and Weah out wide and find a striker that can play back to goal.

I get so infuriated that we just pass the ball sideways then try to bomb it over the top that is low percentage and then when we do get to the ball first, we have horrible 1st touches and the attack is gone. I'm no soccer strategy expert (outside of my hundreds of hours in football manager) but if we can see it, why can't GGG?
