Bc just about every modern WC final has been held in one with an iconic stadium

Qatar?

Those stadiums weren’t even built to stay there.

South Africa? They remodeled the stadium the final was in for the World Cup.

Do you even know the names of these iconic stadiums these modern World Cup tourneys were played in?

Brazil is the only one I could name off the top of my head.

Maracanã.

Just saying.

As usual, your hyperbole gets the best of you on this board whenever something (usually American soccer related) happens that you don't agree with. In this case, you are upset that Dallas got the World Cup final because you watched a match there once and had a bad experience, so you are making this hella fallacious argument that America is bastardizing the sport by not putting the final in a stadium that you dub as "not iconic".

Lets take a look at the last 7 World Cups in the last 24 years.

2022 final: Lusail Stadium - opened in 2021 and was constructed specifically for the World Cup, definitely not iconic.

2018 final: Luzhniki Stadium - opened in 1956, hosted 1980 Olympics that a shite ton of countries didn't attend. Spartak Moscow's home stadium. Old, but probably not iconic outside of Russia. I'd argue JerryWorld has more international recognition than Luzhniki

2014 final: Maracana - iconic.

2010 final: FNB Stadium - Opened in 1989, but was a nothing stadium until it was renovated specifically for the World Cup when it even changed its name completely for the tournament. Not iconic in the slightest.

2006 final: Olympiastadion - iconic

2002 final: Nissan Stadium - Opened in 1998 and was constructed specifically for the World Cup. Iconic now, but only because of its history as hosting the final of the first ever World Cup in Asia. Not iconic at all at the time.

1998 final: Stade de France - Opened in 1998 for the World Cup. At the time, definitely not iconic.

And if it wasn’t a historical stadium is was a brand new one built for soccer in a destination city

lol you beat me to it

So let’s say 3 iconic stadiums and a new one that became one

Qatar is a wash nothing about that WC means shite

I didn’t have a bad experience at Jerry World

It’s just not a good venue to watch soccer. It’s not built for it

It has better sightlines than the Maracana, which is built like an MLB 1980's cookie cutter stadium.

I mean technically, none of the American stadiums that are hosting were, except for maybe the new Meadowlands.

I'll give them credit for making sure, dimensionally, that it could fit a full pitch in without it looking like it was shoved in. But they lose all the credit for turfing it.

I am very curious to see how these turf stadiums handle growing grass indoors for a year in the leadup to the cup.

I know ATL has that giant Bermuda grass strip outside that they could maybe figure out something

I’m a grass nerd so I’m definitely all about looking into it.

Especially with some match being played on warm or cool season grass

Most of the world plays on cool season. But that shite gonna get torched during summer here in parts of the country that already use it on the NFL stadiums

Other than suffering thru food poisoning and throwing up in the bathroom there, I had a good time watching the US play Costa Rica in the GC there. We sat in the corner on the middle level and the sight lines and all that were just fine.

Now walking 4 blocks to the car sick as shite after the game is another story

Madrid and Barca played there last summer and it got rave reviews by those that attended. Also they are reconfiguring the stadium to accommodate the World Cup final.

I’d much rather this than MetLife which would’ve been awful….glad the south got it

Pretty much every stadium these days. Upper decks have been getting fricked since luxury suites became prominent.

care to recommend a stadium to us that holds 100k and has amazing upper deck views? seems a petty thing to nitpick about to be honest

Wembley seats 90k for footy and you don’t have to watch it on a jumbotron in the upper deck

I’ve been there 6 times and have sat in the upper deck

Like I said Jerry World will suck in the upper deck because you can’t see the pitch and watch on the jumbotron once you hit a part of the upper deck

I've been in both the press box and upper deck for football and soccer there and this is just not true.
