Witnesses like SD often hurt the side who called them.

We had a murder trial in Jackson last year. William "Polo" Edwards.
Should've been a slam dunk case but was a hung jury.
The main witness against him was a former g/f. He killed her bf in a fit of jealousy. She gets up on stand and went total hood rat. Discussed their sex life, trashed him on how bad he was in bed, I mean went total hood rat.
Made herself so unlikable to the jury that getting a whole jury to believe her was almost impossible. The prosecutors prepped her but she ignored it all and went rogue. 20 years ago she served time for manslaughter. One of her former attorneys told me at that trial, she had her walking until she took the stand as she talked herself into prison with her testimony.
