If you haven't heard about the black middleschool teacher fired for letting several of his young female students braid his hair in class, here's the story:
The young, black male teacher decided it was a great idea to have about four of his young, black female students encircle him and unbraid his nappy hair while he sat at his desk and played on his laptop. As if that wasn't bad enough, he had another student video it all with his phone then posted it on his TikTok hoping to go viral.
Well, be careful what you wish for. It definitely went viral! So much so that it got him fired.

Everybody seems to have an opinion on this. Here's mine: Honestly, that's just wrong. He doesn't even look like a teacher with all the tattoos and earrings, etc. A teacher is supposed to act like a student's parent away from home and actually teach them about life. SMH. Pheromones are chemicals capable of acting like hormones outside the body of the secreting individual, to affect the behavior of the receiving individuals. So, yeah, there was definitely sexual tension. Those are young girls around a young ghetto teacher. No offense, but it's what I saw.

What ever happened to drawing a line and acting professional? I've personally worked at a middleschool before, so I speak from experience. Adults around kids that age must set a good example and not do anything to contribute toward their delinquency. I knew some of the youngsters had a crush on me. But, instead of encouraging it, I distanced myself and even had one student moved. That's what results from professionalism.

Update: The fired teacher posted on his TikTok after his firing, "My students have been messaging (texting) me saying we miss you, bestie!" Come on, man. Bestie? Those are kids who shouldn't even have his number or be that comfortable talking to him like that...SMH

IMO it wasn't professional, but every classroom is run differently. My favorite class was a history class in high-school where our teacher would dress up at whatever we were learning about. My first experience with her was her dressed like a cavewoman with a blowup club hitting people as they walked into her classroom day 1. Out of all my classes, she got the most engagement out of her students.

Sometimes a relaxed teacher can accomplish a lot in a classroom.

If he was aiming to do something inappropriate with the students, why film/post it?

Welcome.

At least cite your source if you do not know how to copy and paste a link.

Just saying.

BTW, hell no. A teacher should not be letting students braid their hair.
That is *Bidenesque creepy.

Definitely was inappropriate. When I was that age I had a crush on a teacher. And if he had behaved like that guy I'd likely have his baby right now. Thank God he didn't!

Doesn't matter what he intended. He was fired cause it wasn't professional.

Relaxed is one thing, but having poor boundaries is inexcusable for a teacher.

I'm oddly turned on.

But, how is a 12 year old offering to suck me off in front of the entire class not a problem? Basic child psych: punish behaviors you don't want repeated, and reward those things that you do. Nobody, including the teacher, did anything about the offer of the expected valedictorian from EBR.

I've hosted STEM experiments in Houston for 4/5 graders. The behavior of the class is 100% dependent on the teacher personality and anxiety. Same school, but one is paranoid and anxious (the a-hole kids run the show, and challenge me until I turn into elementary school a-hole mode,) the other knows I have control of the class (I get tested once and it is over), and we're in business. Year after year.

Classroom management is a specific class, at least at LSU. I was an adult before I graduated (only took ten years, yay!) but almost every teacher is non-confrontational to a fault. What most teachers don't get (including SPED) is that to not react, is a reaction of it's own, but that doesn't mean backing down. Students respond (of any age) when they know you're confident in your control of the subject and the class. They also know when you're blood in the water. Most teachers are not able to do this, because of many reasons I'm sure I'll end up getting into later.

Oh, James stole two matchbox cars, it's only $2. Nah, you stole, and you don't do that. Hold standards (as parents, which most don't.)

Have you taken stock of how smart people are in the last 20 years? I was told 30 years ago that sexual harassment was the quickest way to end my career, before the iPhone. Students of any age don't touch you, you don't touch them without exigent circumstances. No meetings/counseling sessions unless the door was open, etc.

Have you been introduced to the purpose of social media?

I do not get it with teachers. If I had an account, you don't know who I am. I'm not reposting, liking or doing diddly poo with likes, etc.

He didn't get fired for this.

It was for creating a groomer relationship with his students.

Well he probably got fired because the school realized he treated his profession as a day at the Barbershop.

I think sharing videos of his students, not just this specific video, could also have something to do with his firing.

Absolutely sounds like it.

They teach prospective educators specifically not to do these things.

I’ll take “teachers who are dumbasses for $500, Alex”.

Social media is a cesspool. Stupid people are constantly racing each other to see who can post the dumbest content possible.

Appearance and behavior control a room. I don’t care if you’re a teacher or going into a business meeting. It makes me cringe to see teachers dressed in sweats and crocs. Have some fricking dignity. You’re not there to reaffirm your need to feel “cool”.

He was fired for getting too touchy with kids. Good riddance.

This…

Does not equal this:

I have been teaching for 3 decades. Not one student has ever touched my hair nor would this be allowed. Schools need to focus on academics. I doubt that hair braiding is part of the curriculum.
