Why do some people act like there’s something wrong with the states deciding how they are run?

This is more a message for the hardcore pro-lifers than liberals.

Trump is telling the extreme end of the party they need to chill.

Especially on issues where 48% of the country really do not want to give an inch.
The divisiveness of this country could be toned down so much if the federal government wasn't looked at like a kindergarten teacher responsible for making nice on everything.

We need an O/U on how many times his stance on abortion changes prior to the election. I think a 1.5 line is fair.

That’s been the basic argument all along. Even Ruth Bader Ginsburg said as much.

Don’t know why this is such a issue.

There are a large number of conservatives/Republicans who will see it this way. They want a federal ban and serious criminal consequences for abortions. They're the type to rely on martyrdom syndrome and talk about how this is above politics and what's the point of having power if you won't use it, etc.

The net result is the same if each state adopts measures.

Win state by state.
It is much more realistic and productive than trying to get 67% of congress on board.

States should kick it down to towns and cities.

Community standards > National standards.

I prefer local. That way Californians arent subjected to the whims of two cities.

But states like California won't.

Well it wouldn't take 67% to pass a law.

But I agree. I've tried to argue this exact point with them for years. That's why I know these people exist.

Explaining to them that popularity matters a lot in a democratic country, because you have to get the public to support your proposals enough to pass them. That's why I say they're obsessed with martyrdom syndrome.

They know they will fail and use the failure as a reinforcement of their beliefs. It's a natural proclivity for a population cohort with a culture built around doomsday scenarios.

I'm there for what books should be in school libraries. It should always be a school board decision. If the school board sucks, vote them out or move.

State legislature is appropriate for defining what is proper healthcare and what is argued as a bad public policy.
