And that’s one of the cheaper schools in Texas. Even if you found a job that pays 70k after school, with taxes, interest, etc you will be in poverty.

You boomers who got 12k a year jobs with 3k student loans and a 5k house have no idea and that’s why our country is screwed

Go to a community college for a while, get scholarships, work...

I did work part time at A&M for minimum wage of 7.25 which didn’t cover much. Scholarships are rare and there is too much competition to go to community college. Why do you expect the current generation to do stuff you didn’t do?

You knew the expenses and loan amount when you went to College Station. No one misinterpreted any of it.

Welcome to being an adult.

not a matter of my expectations, I don't really have any

may be what they have to do

Each generation has different experiences.

That’s why you need to be born with white privilege. My parents paid for my college, and I’ll pay for my son’s.

Why do I need to pay 40k and you pay 4K? Why do I have to pay for ppp loans and you don’t pay for student loan? Why do I have to pay for social security for you when you don’t pay for me?

Boomers are the ultimate handout

Either your math or your spending habits are shite. And I do think college costs are generally out of wack.

Don’t go to school if you can’t afford it or can’t honor your financial commitments.

It’s pretty easy. Education has always been a luxury and should never be free.

What about scholarships?

Community colleges to save 2 years?

Cheaper in state option? Closer to home?

I had to slum it at a shite school like LSU to save money. It's not unfathomable

That was in state. This wasn’t so long ago. Not 30 years ago when most of this forum graduated

So if you found a job that pays you $70k out the gate, you couldn’t live modestly for two years to pay off your loan with $20k a year?

This is the issue with you morons. You think you get to live some life of luxury immediately out of undergrad. You took out loans. You live modestly until you pay it off.

I was a grad student making $30k a year and managed to save $40k living comfortably over 4 years. I didn’t take an exorbitant amount of trips every year, I didn’t go out drinking every weekend dropping $100 a night in alcohol, and I bought myself nice stuff from time to time. I had a nice cell phone I kept for 5+ years.

Shove it with the “it’s not affordable”.

Did the boomers push for the Feds to take over student loans or was it the "govern me harder daddy" young idiots?

You don't.

Did you mean, why does college cost so much?
Because of government subsidies.

Why do I have to pay for ppp loans

So, to be clear, you didn't get any COVID aid? Like a stimulus check, or a deferment on paying your loans or left on medicaid even if you didn't qualify or extra unemployment?

Because that would be shocking. Or are you just casting blame on PPP because you made bad decisions?

Cause that what is sounds like.

You think people earning 70k can save 20k a year?

Because the govt shut down businesses, they didn't make you take a loan. You should have taken some business courses while in college. Hope your Gender Studies degree pays for itself.

This is one of those issues that I think both sides are mostly wrong.

Should college students be more aware of the huge loans thwart are taking out and what that will cost them in the long run? Yes

Is college way too expensive for something that has become a requirement for a career in a huge number of fields? Yes

Are boomers completely out of touch and unaware of what it is like because they are looking at their college experience when it was actually affordable? Yes

So basically yes students need to be aware and responsible when taking out loans, and yes college is unreasonably expensive and that needs to be fixed somehow. Both things can be true

You need to ask your college for a refund, or test your IQ as you might qualify for government assistance.
