Serious question: what happens to the areas the SWB annexed into the city of Baton Rouge after the vote took place?

Null and void

This includes Lipsey's, and United Plaza

Didn't they build a new elementary or middle school along Antioch? Once SG has its own school system it will make an impact to SMHS. Local parents for once will have a better option vs. private schools and save that tuition. The parents who can easily afford private will stay private. SJV is another local catholic school that will be hurt by it. I don't believe SG Catholic School will be too affected by this change.

St. Alphonsus and CP took a big hit when Central was formed and Redemptorist eventually closed once kids stayed local to Central High.

Redemptorist took the hit through a combination of Central and Zachary keeping kids in the north of the parish along with Catholic BR being the prestige school of the Catholic system in the area.

I don’t see Episcopal, Dunham, Parkview Baptist, etc, taking a huge hit in enrollment anytime soon but I figure a lot of other private or parochial schools take a hit as the St George schools get developed and show results.

TBH, what may hurt some of those schools more is that St George kids leaving BRMHS and Lee means more magnet spots opening up for kids who would otherwise attend those private schools.

The assets were paid for by the taxpayers in the area. They follow the taxpayers, not the school system.

Isn’t this EXACTLY why St. George was formed? To remove itself from Baton Rouge?

The former B.R., now St. George, citizens paid for the assets and will receive nothing for free.

The former residents paid taxes like everyone else. Their dollars were not separated to pay for only the things they wanted to pay for. That’s not how taxes work.

Tax payers across the entire school district**

. Are addresses tied to certain aspects of construction? Who exactly paid for this window pane or gutter or doorknob?

It is impressive to see someone so ignorant in a topic after 10 years.

Everyone who has lived there in the last century or two plus certainly believed it was.

These people choose to purchase a large investment in EBR parish then decided they didn’t want to live in BR anymore.

These people never lived in the city of Baton Rouge. So they didn’t just decide not to live in BR anymore because they never lived in BR in the first place. They used “Baton Rouge” on mailers because it was the closest municipality.

No.

But Broom, MOP and her propagandists sure made sure the idiots thought St.G. was "seceding" from BTR.

You're saying that someone who bought a house in that part of Baton Rouge 5, 10, 20, 50, 150 years ago didn't think they were moving to Baton Rouge, despite every service being provided by Baton Rouge and their addresses being in Baton Rouge?

Problem was they tried to make it a racial issue of rich white StG leaving behind poor black BR.

Problem being that BR tends to be hollowed out in the middle with rich and poor but not middle class thanks to the state of the school system. StG tends to be middle class and somewhat mixed, wanting a future instead of subsidizing NBR and profiteering off contracts like the Enquist / Lipsey contingent.

Ever looked at a utility bill in this parish?

It will say whether you are in the city or not as part of the cost for services.

it's a matter of good government versus bad government, not race.

Well...

The City/Parish form of government has only been around since 1947.

Also, the City of Baton Rouge has had defined limits since that time and signs all over the place designating where they are. You think those signs are there for shits and giggles?

To people who are educated about this, yes.

To people listening to SWB, “TogetherBR”, etc? Less so.
