Horseshiite. I’ve owned approximately 50 bird dogs in my life. Done everything from field trial to simply shooting birds. Known tons of people who owned lots of bird dogs as well. Known plenty of breeders as well.
Never in my life have I ever heard of someone shooting a dog because it would not hunt. NEVER.
And I have removed dogs from field trial and breeding over some of the most minute details such as an English Pointer not maintaining a straight tail when pointing. Great dog. One of my best bird dogs but he couldn’t compete in field trials. Did I ever think of shooting him? Frick no.
I have had dogs that just didn’t get it. Bumped birds, wouldn’t pattern, ran wide and wild and shooting them never, ever crossed my mind.
Sorry, but this is not a common thing with people who own bird dogs.

I’ve never heard of it. Maybe in redneckville, white trash world. No decent breeder or trainer would ever consider killing a dog because the dog doesn’t hunt well. EVER.
If there is something wrong with the dog, they will either sell it off or give it away as a pet, or at a minimum, get the dog fixed so the genes are removed.

Agreed and I’ve said as much in this thread.
The PR fallout is a separate issue from whether her actions were OK.
And depending on her national ambitions, it may not matter.
This is a nonissue in South Dakota, but may be an issue in other circumstances.
