My great uncle gave his life to the country he loved.

His sister, my grandmother, died at age 95 2 months ago. We honored her brothers life every year on this day.
Last year, which ended up being her last memorial day, she broke into tears amd sobbed her brother didn't die for the country we live in today. And shook her head and sobbed saying "what has happened to this place?"
I will add both she and her brother weren't born in the United States. Both were born in mexico- her dad was working for an oil company amd was stationed there in the 1920s. After leaving Mexico, they returned to their homeland of Holland, and fled Europe when Hitler invaded, There desperate attempt to flee landed them on the last ship from Italy to the United States. My grandmother had more love for this country than anyone I have ever met

Just out of curiosity do you know how big your great uncle was? I've read that the average G.I. in WWII weighed 150. I had a great uncle who served in WWI. He was old when I was a kid but he was about 5-6 and 140. I asked him how much he weighed in the war and he said 'about 130.'

He wasn't big. I don't know exact weight but he was tall. He was 18 when enlisted, still growing
He actually wanted to be a pilot but had some medical condition (maybe too tall? My grandmother said that but I know if that's true). He was an amazing artist- his passion was military aircraft. I had a few of them, but now possess almost all of them. I'll post some in a while

It's possible. The problem was that the pilot's parachute was located under the seat. Neal Boortz's dad wanted to be a fighter pilot but was too tall. He agreed to fly with no parachute so that it could be removed from under the seat and the seat lowered. They took the deal and he flew.
