Morgan Freeman: Black History Month and the Term ‘African-American’ Are Insulting

Hollywood star Morgan Freeman has reiterated his antipathy for Black History Month as well as the term “African-American,” saying in a new interview that he finds both concepts to be insulting.
Freeman explained to London’s The Sunday Times why he finds both terms repugnant.
“Two things I can say publicly that I do not like. Black History Month is an insult. You’re going to relegate my history to a month?” he reportedly said, before adding:
“Also ‘African-American’ is an insult. I don’t subscribe to that title. Black people have had different titles all the way back to the n-word and I do not know how these things get such a grip, but everyone uses ‘African-American’. What does it really mean?”
He added: “Most black people in this part of the world are mongrels. And you say Africa as if it’s a country when it’s a continent, like Europe.”

We need more black men standing up and saying stuff like this.

“If we accept that… in fact we are all bigots, that we are hardwired to be biased, then we can accept that, ‘OK, that’s going to be the first thing in our brains, but the second thing in our brains can be our cautious efforts at acceptance.’”
Gosh damn it's nice to have someone, white, black, or purple, who understands the root of human psychology and doesn't shy away from it, but confronts it and accepts it with the hope of improving it.

And I agree with that statement. Unfortunately, people who agree with that statement aren't the ones who need convincing.

Freeman's mentality is much higher than all that political, agenda-driven crap that the MSM pumps out 24/7. It insults him, and pisses him off that it's being used, AND that it's being gobbled up by the vast majority of blacks.

He’s a good man and one of my favorite actors. Morgan owns property in the GS/OB area and spends a lot of time there. He sometimes volunteers to help out with the GS police department.

Morgan Freeman doesn’t have a victim mentality

It's surprising the amount of blacks who feel similar to this, they just don't broadcast it and the media doesn't carry them.

This one is a bit extreme enough that I don't think many have gotten there yet although I am starting to notice more blacks referring to themselves as Americans and black Americans versus "African Americans".

Me thinks you need to go a little further back there, Red.

Democrats have a very paternal relationship with their pet African Americans.

"African-American" is such a stupid term. People use it randomly to describe strangers and large groups of people, without knowing if they are African or even American.
I once heard an NBA broadcaster refer to a foreign black player as African-American.
To call someone African-American, you are making uneducated guesses about both their race and their citizenship.

He is right. African-American never made sense to me. You are either American or not.

Dumbest label of them all.
I guess dark continent American was not appealing enough.

‘African-American’
Only in the USA. Imagine going to any other country and hearing this hyphenated nonsense.
Hi, I am African-Jamaican.
Hi, I am Arfican-English.
Hi, I am African-French.
Hi, I am African-Canadian.
Hi, I am African-Dominican.
Its absurd and just a way to divide.

He's a black man who grew up in Mississippi in the 30s-40s. If ANYONE has a right to claim they've suffered greatly from racism, it would be him.
And yet he STILL has overcome that to become one of the top 50 actors AT LEAST in movie history, all without being old and bitter (can you hear me Paul Mooney and others), or being an "uncle Tom" or some sideshow.
Freeman is a great American who has shown it may be harder for some, but virtually anyone can make it well in America with the proper attitude and work ethic.

Freeman is our current day Curtis Mayfield. Curtis got it, and so does Freeman. It's a shame that our cultures and civilizations ignored both very wise black men.

I wonder what his thoughts are about Juneteef
