Why does it bother you? I've known several married gay couples and they're every bit as boring as the straight married couples I know.

No one “needs” to be married. People want to be married. Marriage is a contractual arrangement between two adults who decide to commit to each other. All adults should have the simple right to marry other adults.

It’s contractual only because of the government making it so. Marriage existed long before the government issued a license for it.

For most people, marriage is first and foremost a religious ceremony, dedicating your lives to each other before God. It’s an oath between you, your spouse and God.

The government can marry two men. Two men married before God is blasphemy.

They deserve to be miserable like us straight folks.

You can always tell the guys who have never made love to another man. It’s funny how that completely changes your view on these things. It’s like trying to ban meat when you’re a vegetarian.

Why is the government involved in marriage at all?

Because women needed an enforcement arm to ensure that they get half of a man's shite, the kids, alimony, and child support when they decide that they're "not happy".

Yeah, maybe we should have erected a wall between church and state to protect both from each other.

For what purpose does marriage serve them?

For the same reasons marriages serve infertile heterosexual couples.

Couldn't most of the issues that are brought up be resolved with a simple legal contract? Such as hospital visitors rights, health insurance, etc?

What do you think marriage* is if not a simple legal contract.

* Marriage as the state sees it, not how a religious organization sees it.

quote:

If a particular community does not see gay marriage as a net benefit to the community, why should that community be violently forced to recognize gay marriage?

That, along with the state discriminating against its own taxpayers, is wrong.

quote:

How can you support gay marriage and not also support everything with the trans movement, like gender affirmation? What is the difference?

Because gay marriage only requires the state to recognize it. Gender affirmation requires people to recognize it.

A better comparison is gay marriage and trans surgeries. Both can be done, but neither should require your agreement that it's a good or positive thing.

This is the real question.

Correct. Marriage should be a religious ceremony. If people want the government involved, they can create a partnership and sign contracts.

Then gay marriage would still exist because plenty of churches would perform the ceremony. Which, for the record is laughable, because the Bible is clear on the subject. But that's the reality.

What a stupid fricking question. The answer is the same damn reason straight people do AND before you bring the church into it know that marriage was around centuries before the church got involved.

Why do over 50% of heterosexual marriages end in divorce?

I honestly don't give a shite. It has nothing to do with me.

And? As long as the government is not involved, it doesn't matter.

There is no possible way to police private, non-government ceremonies - and that's good.

We give tax breaks to traditional marriages because traditional nuclear families are a net benefit to the country and their communities. Gay and non-traditional marriages are not.

How do you define benefit? Gay marriage couples have incredibly low rates of poverty and crime compared to the general population. They also pay more in taxes than general population.

And this all assumes that using the tax code to encourage/discourage behavior is a legitimate function of government.

I think you’re the one being naive here. Leftism isn’t results based. The tranny nonsense was going to happen regardless of what happened with the gay marriage issue and, no matter how the tranny ends up, the far left will usher out some other ridiculous nonsense to sow chaos. History in the greatest teacher.
