I read something a few weeks after the attack that Hamas was trying to keep it somewhat regimented just to take hostages, but a number of regular citizens broke through and are the ones who went apeshite.

Right after Oct 7, Hamasa was broadcasting many videos showing what had happened because they were so proud. Now they deny that their videos exist or show what they bragged about in the days just after Oct 7.
