The Louisiana Legislature is considering a bill that would give Republican Gov. Jeff Landry and his successors unprecedented power over higher education: the ability to directly hire university system presidents.

I realize the governor heavily influences the board but when it gets to this point it impacts the leadership at the university and LSU will become even more political then it already is. Hopefully common sense wins out and this bill doesn't see the light of day.

It won’t be long before ULL is the flagship. Started with Blanco. Gonna be finished by Landry.

Kinda like Obama then Biden.

What in the hell about changing the Middleton name and the hiring of F King or Tate gives you the warm fuzzies that the BOS is doing a fantastic job? Forgotten this already?
quote:

LSU Board of Supervisor member Collis Temple’s comments reflect poorly on LSU

quote:

Will Temple and the board move next to establish the image police and begin monitoring the words, activities, and social posts of employees and all sponsors and business partners that are affiliated with the university that might reflect poorly on LSU?

Do they start with fraternities, athletics or the board? The ongoing political theater by the LSU board over the energy contract is embarrassing and reflects good ol’ boy Louisiana politics at its worst. And guess who’s right in the middle of it? That’s right: Temple.

LSU has always been political. John Bell could be considered one of the most political Governors when it concerned LSU in the last 50 years. The BOS appointments are political patronage. It is funded by our taxes so LSU in inherently political. You are just throwing crap against the wall because it is Landry.

If some of his constitutional changes pass, there may be a way to actually protect some of LSU's funding. I guarantee you Landry won't be on the news saying there may be no LSU football if we don't pass his agenda. You are really grasping at straws here. JBE gave us Jim Berhard and Collis Temple's full entrenchment in LSU. He worked to privatize services at LSU as a direct transfer to Bernhard. That is why Collis Temple is on the board.

LSU is and has always been political. Please provide any inkling of proof how Landry is going after LSU. We survived Blanco who was far more involved in LA University politics than Landry. This is just trying to start garbage.

Maybe Landry won't try to run over LSU fans leaving games with his police escort going 90 MPH. Maybe he won't show up at the next Heisman Ceremony or try to get Brian Kelly to campaign for him.

You need to go away with this shite.

While he’s allowed sports to flourish during his time here, that’s not a great indicator of how well someone’s doing as a university president

List the bad things he's doing then. Because surely for you to have this opinion, you have a long list compiled of what he's done that is terrible.

Of course you think he's fantastic. He forced all LSU students to get your precious pfizer garbage and quietly rescinded it in the last hour after everyone took it.

He's a piece of shite tyrant for that alone.

It's not "throwing crap against the wall." It's objectively understanding what this legislation is.

If you think Jeff Landry has anyone but Jeff Landry's interests in mind, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Oh, you mean like going on national television to tell LSU athletes that they should have their scholarships pulled if they don't stand for the national anthem?

See above.

Yes, and the political landscape of 2006 is not even in the same ball park as it is today. Politicians fight culture wars now. There is no reaching across the isle. All that has to happen is Trump making one comment about how LSU doesn't stand for the anthem and a Landry appointee's head will explode and make sweeping changes.

I didn't like JBE and I didn't like these moves. I still liked them more than the bullshite Landry pulled with the anthem.

Look, I get it. You're part of the GOP. I, as a registered republican, can still look at things objectively and see that Jeff Landry does not have this state, or this state's flagship institution, in mind when making decisions. He cares about winning the culture war more than anything else.

This isn't possible.

It will actually just get political in a different direction.

Tate is also pro-Greek life and has done a lot to be connected with that community on campus after F. King tried everything he could to kill it. I know there's a number of people on here who like to hate on Greek life, but IMO it is the most important student community on campus because it attracts students from around the country to come here.

ETA: For everyone here downvoting, Greek life is pretty much the only community left on campus that reflects the values that most of us here on this board hold. Unless you want LSU to continue to fall behind other SEC schools or end up like UCLA or Columbia are right now, it is important that Greek life is strong and responsible on our campus, which Tate has had a big hand in restoring.

Is not doing "bad things" supposed to be a compliment or some kind of high bar for a university president making $725k?

I could be named president and I wouldn't do any bad things. I probably wouldn't do anything good either, just like Tate.

His office has been a disaster handling the deaths of students, which is a "bad thing"
