How is Ukraine an ally?

It's a place where our politicians can money launder.

Allegedly

When it comes to foreign policy, the only guiding principle should be doing what’s best for the United States on a case-by-case basis.

One country is a democracy and a U.S. ally. The other one is not.

True isolationism means retreat from both (and also Taiwan). Modified MAGA says we can pick and choose which foreign intervention works for us.

Rational people don't deal in absolutes. I'm an isolationist but I understand the importance of Taiwan. As an isolationist, I also support manufacturing necessities like microchips at home so we don't have to worry about countries like Taiwan. There is no such need from Ukraine or Israel.

"Modified MAGA" is simply using common sense and realizing that the world isn't black & white.

I'm fine selling them weapons. Giving them weapons is a waste of money that we don't have.

Neither should be armed. The American taxpayer should not be on the hook for any other country's defense save for our own.

And contrary to boosie’s characterization above, a principled foreign policy based on such an axiom is not a form of “isolationism” but a form of “non-interventionism.”

Despite boosie promoting the prevailing wisdom of the permanent bipartisan reigning regime in the Potomac Beltway regarding foreign policy, there is a distinct difference between the two concepts.

That meme is silly as the point you think you’re trying to make. Firstly, it’s “greatest ally in the Middle East,” not greatest ally period. Secondly, what is an ally supposed to do in return? Be an ally back would be the bare bones most common sense answer.

Understand that we should do things that enhance our position in the world and disregard the stuff that doesn't.

Understand further that just about anything can enhance our position and you understand the gotcha.

So you gotta go bang for your buck type of thing which takes a more nuanced approach. Also you have the ability for both carrot and stick type of diplomacy and both can work.

One needs to understand these to do it correctly. Trump understood this.

Biden based his policy on a don't lose type of proposition and when you play not to lose you also don't play too soon so you inevitably screw things up. Some screw things up catastrophically with this type of approach and biden does this.

Israel has a functioning government and is capable of self governance, as it has shown time and time again under Jewish rule. The Ukraine is closer to Palestinian in the fact it can’t say that.

You do realize that we already do this and have done so for years, right?

We should stop arming both and quit pretending our hegemony means shite other than the right to launder money and pressure other countries into left leaning nonsense.
