Went ride to lake fields (Raceland La) and lake long (Bourg La)

There was definitely a significant movement overnight. A lot of new birds - especially divers …. Saw several large piles of dosgris and ringnecks - also so several hundred greys.

Looks promising for sure

Drove around before work today. Looks like the mallards have arrived with the front, but still mostly pintail. Not seeing many geese in the area.

Saw a bunch of pronghorn as well.

What part of ND you hunting?

We were south west of Fargo. Wife’s cousin lives out there and we have a great time on pheasants and waterfowl. I was lucky enough to pick up a banded lesser on the trip. The cold messed up the patterned waterfowl to a degree but we still did ok.

Saw lots of grey ducks, bwt and one group of about 4 sprigs in CenLa. Nearly caught a drake mallard pulling up to brush a river blind but he was a cripple from last season and couldn't fly well and jumped out the grass next to the boat on the bank and when he hit open water he was normal looking and full plumed and majestic looking. Some sky buster prolly shot at it and he's been dodging gators ever since.

This weather has the blood pumping. Wish it would stay cool for another week, but it appears it will warm up quickly.

or cupped in decoys and I was so shocked to see a mallard I went after him with my cheek about 6 inches off the gun.

Sorry Mr Duck. But you shouldn’t a been somewhere you never go. If you want to get folded up go to someone who sees you a bit more often

Yeah this was on the river but right before Catahoula starts, odds are high on a sky buster given years of empirical evidence from nearby blinds. But never know, just a hunch.

Anyone seeing specks? Had eyes on a big feed but seems the front has pushed most out. Cenla area.

Arkansas rice is holding super flocks. Maybe they’ve turned back north?

We open South Zone in Texas on Saturday. Gonna be in flooded rice between Anahuac and Winnie. Struggling with water like everyone else in South LA as well. Barely got the fields flooded since water in canals was brackish until we got rain a few weeks back. Marsh is still super dry on the Eastside.

Birds are pretty thick now but I imagine they beat it over the weekend to probably over towards the Bay City and El Campo areas where they have more water.

Brought my son yesterday to Dularge morning late. Threw decoys at 9:30 am then brushed a couple of blinds. Saw several flocks of greys. Probably 200-250 all together. Two flocks of BWT & a ton of Dos Gris going to roost at sundown. Not outstanding by any means, but not terrible. Things will change drastically in 5 days.

Better than Venice. Brought son to camp for youth weekend, they haven’t showed up yet, and the ones there are all scattered ( no feed). Go that feeling opening weekend is going to be a let down for many down there. Perfect fishing weather and conditions.
