Anyone know what size is considered a trophy? My son just caught a black species in our pond weighing 2.01 lb and just shy of 16”.

It's going to be at least 3.5lb minimum. A 2lb sacolait can be caught on the reg in lake darbonne. But a trophy is a trophy so if he wants a replica of a 2lb fish, nobody would laugh at him. You aren't catching that in Henderson.

3.5# is a lofty standard considering there have only been 3 black crappie entered into the LA state record books since the separation of the white and black species in 1994. A 2lber is a slab of you think it’s a trophy it’s a trophy.

It's lake dependent. That might be considered small in some waters, and huge in others. I consider a 16 inch 2 pound crappie a trophy, in my waters. Congratulations to the young man.

First, I need the neighborhood name and coordinate locations of the catch before I can give proper opinion.

I would consider 3lb an exceptional crappie not sure about Sac-a-Lait. Half the state record would probably be acceptable so you are probably good.

A trophy is different for everyone. It's not going to set any records but that is a dang fine fish

That's a huge fish. Congrats to him.

Also, that's a white crappie, not a black crappie.

I am starting to believe my area just maxed out at about 2 lbs. I have caught a shite ton of them on multiple lakes, rivers and bayous and while I can load the boat with 14s, 15s are rare and I have exactly 1 16.

That's a trophy in my eyes.

I caught a 14 1/2" around Lake Bouef and all the old guys were pretty impressed. As mentioned, I'll agree, it's lake dependant.

I remember seeing one mounted at a restaurant around Toledo bend that was 4 lbs.

Of course it could have been fake
