Like a lot of guys, I have rattle-canned an AR or 2, using cheap rustoleum (hey it looks good now, as good as any other spray job, including cerakote). The issue is always going to be durability, and btw I've gotten a pistol professionally cerakoted by a respected guy and there's already a tiny chip. Nothing is perfect.

So, thinking outside the box- I just did a headlight restoration on a car, using the Cerakote kit. Looks worlds better than other restoration kits I've used, if the others worked I wouldn't have needed to.
The last step is applying "cerakote sealant" via wipes. I used one wipe for both headlights, liked it so much I did my truck tail lights with the rest of the kit and used the other wipe on those.

Is that just a cerakote clearcoat? I know it's not the bake version, but would one of those wipes, over the rustoleum, provide reasonable protection? The instructions say to let it cure for 24 hrs, before driving or getting it wet. That sounds "paint-ish".

I just picked up a Cerakote "trim kit", which is simply 10 packs of sealant wipes. Came out to $1.10 a wipe. I could probably wipe down 3-4 rifles with 1 wipe.

I have no idea. There are many cerakote air dry products. I spray it with an airbrush.
