Been lurkin around this site for a while and im a first time poster. I tried to search the forum for some history on this but didnt have much luck.

I have had a couple of different fillet knives in the past. Starting with the tried and true mr twister on now to my last purchase which was the batt powered bubba blade. It worked fine but crapped out on me a few days ago. I got some serious sticker shock when i went to replace it. I was wondering if u guys have had any luck with some of the cheaper amazon knives around $100 or so.

I use the knife for cleaning mostly catfish and the occasional white perch. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an Old Timer and it works well. It's 70 bucks on Amazon. I have the Bubba kit but I use the Old Timer more because it's so easy to store.

The Old Timer just works and it's in a simple bag. The case on the Bubba is too nice for something I'm going to get blood and scales on.

If you really want to kick up the Old Timer get a spare set of Mr Twister stiffer blades for those bigger size cats.

Good friend gave me a bubba blade battery powered knife.

It’s pretty great.

That ole timer looks pretty good for the price! Any trouble with it other than not being able to swap out to a fresh battery?

Nope. At most get a set of Mr Twister blades for catfish.

I was running the mr twister blades on the bubba knife. It was awesome. Just cant justify $200 for a new bubba knife. Thanks for the reply

Batteries crap out? Mine is going two years and other than some fhead at the lodge borrowing one of my batteries it’s been ok. Cleaned multiple hundreds of trout with it but will buy another unless they fix the trigger. An AA should last years cutting soft fish with MT blades. Sharp blades will make electrical knives last longer.

Batteries are fine and the motor still runs. The blades will no longer lock into place. I have tried to clean the catch and shoot some jb-80 down the throat but no luck.

I have tried most of the new battery filet knives and not impressed with any of them. They just don’t have the blade speed and power for me. The heavy duty corded rapala is the best for me hands down and is what I use. I order a new set of blades one or twice a year and it never lets me down.

No complaints w the lithium bubba knife. Not cheap but it works well on smaller fish. Would it work on big redfish snapper ajs etc ...nope

My only complaint with my Bubba. The battery life is amazing.

Rapala Lithium. I gave my Bubba away after using the Rapala. Rapala has way more speed and torque. Also the trigger on bubba is terrible, you will be wore out after a large mess of fish. Rapala has trigger in perfect spot.

I'm just not impressed with my Bubba cordless at all.

I have Bubba cordless and corded. The ergonomics of them just don't work for me. Can clean most fish faster with my mister twister.

I tried the Rapala Lithium as well and it was definitely better than the bubba bust still not as strong as the corded version. I ended up returning it. Just not worth the price for less performance at least for me.

American angler is top of the line based on my 25+ yrs owning two. Bought my second one two years ago and it’s as well built as first one. I’m well pleased and use it on channel and blue catfish, specks, redfish.

American angler has been great too me over the last ten years. Corded though.

If you want to go all out battery… the combo above will burn through some red snapper in no time
