I'm getting swarmed at the camp and need a solution so I can actually spend some time outside without going crazy. What brand fogger and chemicals work best? Any other recommendations are appreciated.

Not sure about a fogger but my old boss had a “mosquito magnet” it’s a propane device that captures mosquitoes. He would show us pics of bags of mosquitoes it caught each week. Said it kept his yard pretty much bearable in south Louisiana.

I saw that online. Looked interesting also. Maybe I'll get both and do double the damage haha.

Yes. We have one at the camp that my dad bought in the 1980's and it still works like a charm.

I have the Smaller Stihl Backpack fogger. 2 1/2 gallon capacity. It’s a lot lighter for me to carry. And goes a long way.

I use Talstar as someone mentioned. Also some pyrethrin for fast knockdown of the insects.

I’ve been killing mosquito’s for a living since 1995. We bought it so we would have something to bring to the camp in the marsh.

Kills all the insects. I don’t spray high or late because of lightning bugs.

You can try everything. The only thing that truly works is a screened porch..

fogger

Second that. I have a similar backpack fogger with Talstar. Been doing this for years. For mosquito fogging, I mix 1 tsp per gallon and you don't hear a cricket chirping for days. If mine shite the bed tomorrow I would by another.

Looks like using a fogger with telstar would cover all insects as well? You wouldn't need to use a pest control company anymore?

Do you fog your whole yard? Like landscaping and grass and all? Along with the exterior of your home? How often do you have to apply it?

I fog my yard, trees, bushes any shady areas. It usually lasts around a month, about three weeks and you start seeing mosquitos again in small numbers.

calm environment a fogger will work short term.... slight breeze and someone else is enjoying your fogger. it needs to have time to settle in an area. The propane mosquito collectors work but they are designed to attract. so dont put them near where you wanna chill.

Best thing i have found is Bifen and Permethrin mixed in a spryer double what th mix says with water and spray everything down and then the yard for about 30 yds out. hit any wet spots and standing water. repeat after rain storms. I can comfortable sit on our porch with fans on while neighbors cannot.

I live on the lake. I use a mosquito zapper. Spray with ONSLAUGHT. Seems to work for me.

And a large fan you can sit in front of, not just under.

Fans work b/c/ they can have too powerful of air for the skeeters, of course. but they also send your carbon dioxide away from you which makes you much harder to find unless you're next to a puddle or a breeding ground nearby.

Permethrin and bifenthrin are both synthetic pyrethroids of pyrethrin.

Pyrethrin is the natural extract of the Chrysanthemum family of flowers. It has fast knockdown properties. Good for flies because it gets them before they can haul arse. My pyrethrin will knock a horse fly out of the air.

Talstar ( bifenthrin ) and Permethrin10% lend longevity to your mix solution.

Pyrethrin degrades in a few hours.

That’s why we use both pyrethrin and Talstar. I don’t touch permethrin. I don’t like it because it’s nasty. Talstar is more pleasant to use.

On the fogger.

Who ever gets one I guarantee you will enjoy it. You can put a 45degree louver on the nozzle to do soffits and trees.

It’s fun when the termites swarm. You knock them down by the millions and the chickens love eating them the next day.

We have ran ours on a wooded “ island “ surrounded by marsh and only five hundred yards from the beach of the GOM. Lots of bugs.

Nothing where we fogged in the lower trees. Nothing.

Everything I have is Stihl. Chain saw, blower, weed eater. Can’t go wrong .

i keep a can of Bengal fogger in my bucket. after setting decoys, fogging the weeds/roseau cane is the next thing to do. stuff works. you can hear the mosquitos humming around you, but no bites.

i know this is not exactly what you are asking, but this type of fogger works for sure.

this is the (non-toxic) answer. i put a 24" tornado wall fan out on my deck and it makes sitting out there pleasant vs previously impossible

Will these foggers kill or scare my bees away? I don't wanna lose my pollinators.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is also yes.

They also kill other beneficial insects that make a living off eating mosquitoes and mosquito larvae.

ETA: It is more harmful to native bees than the western honey bee. Social bees, like the honey bee (and to a lesser degree some social bumble bees) are more insulated to the impacts of pesticides just by the nature of their social existence. They can buffer the effects by somewhat isolating the pesticide to different parts of the hive.

With native bees, such as leaf cutter bees and ground bees, they don't have such a buffer. They're solitary and take the full brunt. Leaf cutter bees are especially susceptible because they directly handle and incorporate foliage with residual spray into their nests, killing not just themselves, but their offspring.

The issue is compounded by the fact that many pest control companies spray during the most active hours for native pollinators.

I find they work for short time periods. If I’m cooking outside and hanging out I will fog before heading outside. I notice a difference.
