I'm 74 now and dont have the stamina or funds for high dollar box stands or feedlots. I simplyfied my hunting by picking up metal folding chairs at various flea markets and yard sales. I place them at different location throughout my hunting area. I bring a small cushion in my game bag to each chair that I choose to hunt that day. This eliminates the bordom of seeing the same scenery every hunt. I generally leave them in the woods year after year. They don't rot and will be there when I die. I've never had a chair stolen. Having a lean back chair to hunt from makes a huge difference to this old man. If you wish, you can sligtly move your chair and place some brush tops over it until your next return.

Folding backpack/chair. You can carry the gear you need and have a seat, best hunting gift my wife has ever given me.

That's kinda how we did it as kids, but just sit at the base of a tree.

I've never sat in a stand before. I get way too bored. An ADD think I suppose, wish I could do it actually.

What kinda chair you got? My little three legged folding chair exploded yesterday. I like having one I can tote around.

Hunting from a chair on the ground definitely is not just for old people. I had 3 does no more than 20 yards from yesterday. I was just sitting in a downed tree top.

You can be really effective on the ground with a rifle.

Makes sense. If you cut a hole in the seat and attach a toilet seat, you've really got it made. And I bet most other folks would stay away from your chairs.

The millennium tree seats are great . I have one for me and my son. They are comfortable and extremely lightweight.

I have the Summit tree seat. Just noticed that the Millennium is about half the weight. May have to get that one.

i’m 70 and the stamina and the desire to put in the work is fading. i still put up aluminum 15 ft. ladders by myself but the days of high lock-ons and climbers are over. killed my 8 pt thanksgiving weekend out of a lock-on less than ten ft high.
definitely not mad at them now! i can see myself going after the bass year round in a few more years.

Better put some palmetto or something on the front side so you don't piss in your boots!

6-8ft leaning stand with chain and padlock.
Change the plywood seat every 5 years or so.
Bring a cushion with you.
Buck shot.

Can sit and read a book and enjoy the peace and quiet.
You may get a deer, bobcat, coyote pass by.
You might shoot them. Or not.
But what you do get....
Peace and Quiet.

I second you sir; I hunt public land in several states and pack in the Milinneum tree seat on a frame pack with my warm clothes and hunt from the ground - it’s great for rifle hunting.

I'm 72 with two back surgeries. The mind still says go do it the body says no. I have two box stands both with heaters. Take my Book/kindel thermos of coffee and enjoy the scenery.

I read that initially as deer were hunting old men.

Hell Baw, in Olla you can pull your recliner or couch up to a window, open it and shoot deer out the window of your house.

My 85 year old Dad opened his front door and killed a nice 8 pt in his front yard.

I've been contemplating this and wondering if I should get a light weight .243 one day.

I know it's considered a gun for kids and women, but it looks like a good choice for old men too.

A 243 is fine for deer hunting. Just any cheap bolt action with a scope would be fine. I always carry an extendable aiming rod or a stick in the ground to steady the crosshairs. Can't hold scope steady like in my younger days.
