Auto a/c problem

I have a 2002 Explorer. I just noticed that only warm air comes out of the vents when I turn the a/c on. Could this be just the hvac control panel that has gone bad or something else more serious?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

It’s 22 years old. It likely needs everything replaced.

Most likely there is a leak and has leaked enough refrigerant to completely empty it drop it down past the low pressure switch. Moderately serious
Slightly less likely is the compressor has failed and has contaminated the whole system and any mechanic who cares about his sanity will want you to replace pretty much every component.
Slightly less likely than that is a control board or control device.
If you suspect a leak and you plan on keeping the car for any length of time, don't use "stop leak".

when it gets low on freon the compressor has a pressure switch that will stop it from running.
most likely it just needs a little freon, after all, its 22 years old

Might be a bad blend door actuator.

If the Freon pressures are correct, and the compressor is turning when you engage the AC, the above is the correct answer.

Yep. Probably the blend door.

I changed my compressor on my 2002 f150 a couple of years ago. If you go this route there is one of the bolts that have to be installed before you mount it. If you forget you may be dropping it out again or just use two bolts to secure it. I could not find a way to install that one bolt when I changed mine. I ended up pulling it back off so I could install the third bolt.
