We moved into our starter home about 5-6 years ago, then shortly after pandemic had our first kid in it... it's not tiny but could be bugger for us, but u feel stuck here. Could we a fford to buy bigger? With some stretching yes... but I feel like doing so would require me setting a pile of money on fire

Counterintuitively, it was the Ron Paul movement, which the NEOCONs successfully sidelined. Then it looked like we would get Ron light with Rand, then Trump sucked all the oxygen, and the rationality, out of the party. I’m honestly not sure what the path forward is now for the Republican Party.
Eta: And I agree that the current path for the Democratic Party appears terrifying.

I like Rand more than most politicians, but he just can't ever seem to get any traction on a national scale. He's too mild mannered I guess and doesn't have a strong personality.

Of all of the nonsense bluster I hear about Trump “breaking” people, I think he broke Rand. He was flat out unprepared to stand up to Trump’s bullying, it made him look weak, and he knows it. And he’s never really recovered.

I’m guessing you thought you were firmly “middle class” then (don’t we all?), but I suspect most who do had family incomes that were “significantly higher” than the median when looking back.
Here, this says median household income in La was just over 36k in 1990.

1.) Replace the Fed with a computer algorithm. Audit the Fed every 6 months.
2.) Back part of the money supply with precious metals.
3.) Encourage companies to barter and not tax the transactions.
4.) Work sharing accounts that allow companies to save for lean times so they don't depend on federally funded bailouts.

My dad was college educated and a reasonably high earner. He made about what an engineer made. We lived in a 1600 sq ft ranch house with a family of 5. He drove a 10+ yr old Monte Carlo.
We went out to eat maybe once a month, if that. Our vacations mostly consisted of driving to Houston and going to Astroworld and catching a few Astros games.
I think most people making an upper-middle class income today wouldn't find that lifestyle acceptable.

I'm not sure we want to say that we want the next generation to live exactly like we did.
If we aren't doing things to make them progressively better. Then what is the point or the goal for the next generation?

Seriously? I enjoyed that the Trump administration put more limits on H1B visa holders which directly benefited me. Also pulling out of the TPP was a win for all, do you want to try again?
